  • Patent number: 8164159
Abstract: A reference signal generator includes an integrated circuit substrate having a semiconductor resonator therein. The resonator includes an inductor extending adjacent a first surface of the integrated circuit substrate. A vertically-stacked composite of at least first and second electrically insulating dielectric layers is provided on the integrated circuit substrate. The vertically-stacked composite covers a portion of the first surface, which extends opposite the inductor. A first electrically conductive shielding layer is provided on a portion of the second electrically insulating dielectric layer extending opposite the inductor. The first electrically conductive shielding layer may encapsulate exposed portions of the first and second electrically insulating dielectric layers. The shielding layer may operate as an electromagnetic shield between the inductor and an external structure, such as an integrated circuit package, and also shield against environmental contamination (e.g.

  • Publication number: 20050285786
Abstract: A multi-antenna system and related component and method is provided. The antenna system includes a receiver section, a transmitter section and a controller. Each of the receiver and transmitter sections contains a phase shifter. The controller outputs the phase shift signal. The system may employ algorithm for beam forming. The phase shift value of the phase shifter is changed. The phase and gain of the receiver section in receiver mode is applied to the transmitter section in transmitter mode.

  • Patent number: 6906601
Abstract: A variable phase shifter and a system for the variable phase shifter are provided. The phase shifter includes fixed phase shift elements, active devices for amplifying the outputs of the fixed phase shift elements, a combiner for combining the outputs of the active devices. For controlling the phase of the output signal, a bias controller is provided. The bias controller controls the bias of amplification in the fixed phase shift elements. The active devices may be FET or Bipolar Transistors, and are inductively connected to the ground. The phase shifter can be integrated into a system on chip with a smart antenna front-end system.

  • Patent number: 6850742
Abstract: In a frequency modulation radio receiver with direct conversion, a local oscillator signal is generated having a frequency within a preselected frequency range and the frequency is varied in response to a variable low frequency signal; the local oscillator signal is mixed with a received signal to provide a baseband signal. The variable low frequency signal is generated by a controlled oscillator in inverse relationship to a direct current component in said baseband signal. In a frequency modulation radio transceiver a broadcast function is provided by varying the low frequency signal with an information signal with the resulting local oscillator frequency being varied accordingly and amplified for broadcast. The transceiver is controlled to operate alternately in either a receive mode and a broadcast mode at substantially the same frequency.

  • Publication number: 20030199153
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of producing elementary semiconductor devices such as a field-effect transistor, a capacitor, a resistor, an inductor, a transformer, or a diode, and devices produced by said method. According to the method, a semiconductor seed layer is applied to a substrate having regions of exposed semiconductor material and regions of exposed dielectric material. The method comprises a step of disposing the substrate in a growth chamber and nucleating the seed layer by exposing the semiconductor material and dielectric material to an atmosphere of gases presented at a predetermined flow rate, temperature and pressure selected to provide contiguous growth of the seed layer, the seed layer growing in a single crystal lattice over predetermined windows within the mixed topology substrate.

  • Patent number: 6335651
Abstract: A mixer is designed to operate from a low voltage power source connected via a power terminal and ground and includes a balanced mixer circuit with a balanced input port for receiving local oscillator signals, and a pair of input terminals. A biasing circuit includes, an active voltage divider connected between the power terminal and ground to provide higher and lower voltages at first and second voltage taps. A differential driver circuit includes first and second transistors, collectors of which are each direct coupled to separate ones of the pair of input terminals. The first transistor has a base coupled via a capacitor to a single ended receive signal terminal, and an emitter coupled via a first resistor to ground. The second transistor has a base coupled via a capacitor to grounds, and an emitter coupled via a second resistor to the single ended receive signal terminal. The single ended receive signal terminal is also coupled with ground via an impedance element, in one example third resistor.
