The alternative response paths comprise responding directly to the network node or responding via the relay WD. The method comprises monitoring a paging occasion for a paging message of the remote WD from the network node. The method comprises, upon detecting the paging message from the network node, activating the sidelink connection with the remote WD. The method comprises, upon receiving the paging message, relaying the paging response received from the remote WD to the network node.

In one aspect, a method performed by the wireless communication device comprises: obtaining (301) measurement data indicative of one or more of: a spatial or temporal property of the wireless communication device, or presence of other wireless communication devices; determining (302), based on the measurement data, a configuration of resource pool, RP, monitoring for D2D communication; and performing (303) the D2D communication in accordance with the configuration of RP monitoring. The determining (302) may be made in order to adjust power efficiency of the D2D communication based on the measurement data. If the measurement data is indicative of a traffic-related risk of a user of the wireless communication device, the method will improve power efficiency of D2D communication while maintaining traffic safety.
