  • Patent number: 5186614
Abstract: A refrigerant compressor is disclosed having pistons that reciprocate in radially arrayed cylinder bores of a cylinder block. A discharge chamber is formed in the compressor. A valving means including a timing plate is positioned within the discharge chamber, and alternately covers and uncovers the compressor outlet port. The timing plate includes spaced variable flow orifices to thereby attenuate the pressure pulsations that occur during the operating cycle. The timing plate is a circular disc rotatably connected to the end of the compressor drive shaft. Each flow orifice is pear-shaped and positioned with a constant radial and circumferential spacing for synchronization with the cylinders.

  • Patent number: 5180292
Abstract: A radial compressor for a vehicle air conditioning system includes a cylinder block having an array of radially arranged cylinders. Each cylinder defines a piston receiving bore that is closed by a discharge valve assembly. A piston assembly is received for reciprocation in each bore by a drive assembly that is operatively connected to the engine of the vehicle. The compressor also includes an annular discharge chamber defined between the periphery of the cylinder block and an outer cylindrical shell. Dams extend into the discharge chamber adjacent the side of the bores closest to a single discharge port; that is downstream of the bores. The dams act as baffles to reflect incident pressure waves to reduce gas pulsations, vibrations and noise.

  • Patent number: 5129792
Abstract: A variable displacement wobble plate type refrigerant compressor includes a plurality of axially reciprocating pistons. A drive shaft rotates the wobble plate and thereby reciprocates the pistons within their respective compression chambers. Gaseous refrigerant is admitted to each compression chamber through a suction valve and discharged from each compression chamber through a discharge valve. Each discharge valve opens to a common discharge cavity. A hub is rotatable supported about a fixed axis within the discharged cavity, or downstream of the discharge cavity. A plurality of blades pivotally extend from the hub. A compression spring is disposed inside the hub for biasing the blades toward a flat condition.

  • Patent number: 5079996
Abstract: A fluid pumping assembly including a housing and a plurality of pistons disposed parallel relative to one another and supported for reciprocal movement in the housing. The assembly also includes a shaft which is supported by the housing and which has a longitudinal axis. A wobble plate is mounted about the shaft. A drive mechanism is rotatably driven about the longitudinal axis of the shaft and drives the wobble plate through angulartory movement relative to the shaft thereby reciprocating the pistons. The shaft is nonrotatably supported in the housing but is precisely moveable coaxial of its longitudinal axis to predetermined points to adjust the position of the wobble plate thereby precisely varying the displacement of the assembly.
