    Abstract: A method of forming an alignment layer includes; providing a substrate having a base substrate and a photosensitive polymer layer disposed on the base substrate, the base substrate including a plurality of unit pixel areas, each of which is divided into a plurality of sub-pixel areas, photoaligning the photosensitive polymer layer by irradiating first light to a first exposure area of a first unit pixel area, the first light being inclined at a first angle with respect to the substrate in a first direction, and substantially simultaneously photoaligning the photosensitive polymer layer by irradiating second light to a second exposure area of a second unit pixel area at substantially the same time as the first light is irradiated to the first exposure area, the second light being inclined at a second angle with respect to the substrate in a second direction.

The liquid crystal molecules disposed at a domain corresponding to a boundary between the low and high pixel electrodes may be controlled, so that the generation of stains or afterimages may be prevented at a boundary of domain areas.

The auxiliary coupling electrode and the first sub-pixel electrode overlap each other such that the second sub-pixel electrode is capacitively coupled to the first sub-pixel electrode and the auxiliary coupling electrode and the electrode part form a capacitor.

    Abstract: In accordance with another embodiment of the present invention, a LCD panel includes an active matrix substrate, a patterned substrate disposed opposite to the active matrix substrate, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the active matrix substrate and the patterned substrate. The active matrix substrate includes a transistor, a pixel electrode having a first sub-pixel electrode and a second sub-pixel electrode, a first electrode connected to the second sub-pixel electrode, and a second electrode connected to the source electrode of the transistor and the first sub-pixel electrode. The second electrode is coupled to the first electrode so as to form a capacitor. The active matrix substrate can include a protective insulating layer between the second electrode and the pixel electrode, and the protective insulating layer can include a color filter layer. The semiconductor layer of the transistor can extends such that a portion of the semiconductor layer has the same boundary as the second electrode.
