Nam-Deuk Kim has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 7769212
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to human fingerprints. More specifically the present invention relates to assessing the quality of a fingerprint image. An assessment is made by analyzing characteristics of image sub-regions. For example, the characteristics may include statistics that are associated with a sub-region. If a sub-region is found to have unacceptable characteristics, it can be modified through a morphological operation to compensate for the unacceptable characteristics.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 6, 2009
Date of Patent: August 3, 2010
    Assignee: L-1 Secure Credentialing, Inc.
    Inventors: Kyungtae Hwang, Nam-Deuk Kim

  • Publication number: 20030068068
Abstract: A perceptual masking method for digital watermarking identifies areas of dominant orientation within an image and modifies the watermark gain for those regions. The perceptual masking model computes local contrast and measures directionality of image features in small neighborhoods using a standard wavelet filter set and a rotated wavelet filter set to determine if the regions are highly oriented in one direction. The watermark strength gets suppressed if the corresponding area has high contrast and high directionality measure, while the gain reaches the maximum when the area has high contrast and low directionality measure.

  • Publication number: 20020191812
Abstract: The disclosure provides a method of imperceptibly embedding auxiliary information along object edges in image signals. It also provides a method of decoding this auxiliary information from image signals.
