  • Patent number: 7131883
Abstract: A field emission display (FED) and a manufacturing method thereof are provided. The FED includes a getter portion isolated outwardly from an active display region. This getter portion includes a non-evaporable getter layer for absorbing gas and an electron emission source for activating the getter layer. Accordingly, by activating the non-evaporable getter, the gas generated in the display is easily absorbed, and the FED is maintained in a high vacuum state.

  • Publication number: 20050162066
Abstract: A field emission type back light unit for a liquid crystal display may includes a front substrate and a rear substrate that are spaced and facing each other, an anode electrode on a lower surface of the front substrate, a fluorescent layer in a light emitting area, and a getter layer adjacent to the fluorescent layer within the light emitting area. The fluorescent and getter layer may be formed in predetermined patterns on the surface of the anode electrode. The back light unit may also include first and second cathode electrodes in patterns corresponding to the fluorescent and getter layers on an upper surface of the rear substrate, a first emitter on the first cathode electrode to emit electrons to excite the fluorescent layer, and a second emitter on the second cathode electrode to emit electrons to activate the getter layer.

  • Patent number: 5838103
Abstract: A field emission display and a method therefor, which can substantially improve uniformity of electrons emitted from numerous micro-tips formed to be applied to a flat panel display, by etching the edges of cathodes which are shaped into stripes and forming resistance portions in the etched areas, thereby improving an excessive etching and roughness made in etching a hole in an area for forming a micro-tip. Thus, the display is free of the decrease in tip-adhesion, so that the process efficiency can be increased up to 90% and the uniformity difference between the electrons emitted from a plurality of micro-tips can be maintained at .+-.5% in the edge and center of the cathode.

  • Patent number: 5628661
Abstract: A method is provided for fabricating a field emission device which can be adopted as the source for a flat panel display, an ultra-high frequency amplifier sensor, or an electron-beam-applied instrument. A polyimide layer is used as a release layer and a metal mask is formed thereon, thereby enabling the height of micro-tips to be easily controlled. Since the polyimide layer is soluble in an appropriate solvent, contamination does not occur during an etching process, thereby increasing the reliability of the device.

  • Patent number: 5480843
Abstract: A method for making a field emission cathode in layers by first forming a conical-section shaped layer, a truncated buffer layer, and on top of it forming a cathode conical-tip-shaped layer so that the cathode yields a uniform emission brightness and is capable of emitting electrons for a long time, and so that the cathode is not prone to tip breakage when current is excessively applied only to a portion of the cathode.
