Abstract: A method for controlling re-dialing by a calling facsimile system attempting a non-standard capability facsimile operation with a called facsimile system over the public switched telephone network includes the steps of checking for reception of a non-standard facilities (NSF) command from the called facsimile system regarding a requested non-standard capability service and transmitting information to the calling facsimile system as to whether the requested non-standard capability service is executable by the called facsimile system. Upon determining from the received NSF command information that the requested service is not executable by the called facsimile system, an error flag is set by the calling facsimile system and the connection with the called facsimile system is terminated.
