    Abstract: A system for lighting roadways utilizes LED lighting systems recessed into roadside barriers. The LED lighting element includes a number of LEDs fixed in an elongated formation. The LED lighting element is inserted into the barrier's recessed area in a generally vertical orientation. This results in the LED lighting system generating a horizontal sheet of light along the barrier.
