    Abstract: A method of operating a hydraulic pump, comprising: a. filling a hydraulic system oil reservoir with a hydraulic oil comprising: i. a lubricant base oil having defined properties: and ii. an antiwear hydraulic oil additive package; wherein the hydraulic oil has an air release at 50° C. less than 0.8 minutes; and b. operating the hydraulic pump without pump cavitation. A hydraulic system, comprising a hydraulic system oil reservoir holding a hydraulic oil comprising: i. a lubricant base oil, optionally having defined properties; and b. an antiwear hydraulic oil additive package; wherein the hydraulic oil has an air release at 50° C. less than 0.8 minutes. In one embodiment the hydraulic oil additionally has low foam tendency and good demulsibility.

    Abstract: This invention provides a hydraulic oil comprising: 1) a lubricant base oil having an average molecular weight greater than 475, a viscosity index greater than 140, and a weight percent olefins less than 10; and 2) an antiwear hydraulic oil additive package. The hydraulic oil of this invention has an air release by ASTM D 3427-03 of less than 0.8 minutes at 50 degrees C., and a sequence II foam tendency by ASTM D 892-03 of less than 50 ml. We describe a process for making the hydraulic oil of this invention, and a method of operating a hydraulic pump without pump cavitation using the hydraulic oil of this invention.

    Abstract: A heat transfer oil, comprising a base oil made from a waxy feed, wherein the base oil has a low pour point, low aromatics, and defined cycloparaffin composition. The heat transfer oil has high AIT and VI, and is an ISO viscosity grade. A process to prepare heat transfer oil, comprising: hydroisomerization of wax feed to make fraction(s) of base oil having low pour point, defined cycloparaffin composition, and high ratio of monocycloparaffins to multicycloparaffins; and blending the fractions with <0.2 wt % antifoam agent. A method to use heat transfer oil, comprising selecting heat transfer oil having high AIT and VI that is made with base oil having defined cycloparaffin composition, providing the heat transfer oil to mechanical system, and transferring heat from heat source to heat sink. Also, heat transfer oil comprising isomerized Fischer-Tropsch derived base oil with a low traction coefficient, and an antifoam agent.
