Abstract: Techniques for determining a view state for a user interface element are described. A first value for a feature key associated with the user interface element is determined in accordance with feature level criteria and a current context. The first value denotes a first view state for the user interface element. A second value for a second view state for the user interface element is determined in accordance with user interface element level criteria and the current context. A final view state for the user interface element is determined in accordance with the first view state and the second view state. The user interface element is rendered in a user interface in accordance with the final view state.

Abstract: A heterogeneous data storage environment includes a first and second data storage system where the first data storage system includes management functionalities that are distinct from the management functionalities included by the second data storage system. A storage system management device is displays an environment management interface that dynamically changes based upon a user's need to manage either the first or second storage system. For example the storage system management device provides a default environment management interface for the first data storage system that includes a custom management display that allows the user to access the management functionalities associated with the first data storage system. The storage system management device dynamically changes the content of the environment management interface to provide a custom management display associated with the user selection of a second data storage system.

Abstract: A data storage system is configured to provide a graphical display that shows the user a logical schematic of interconnected disk enclosures of a data storage system along with any erroneous connections among the disk enclosures. The graphical display, therefore, allows the user to visually identify the disk drive enclosures in the data storage system and any erroneous connections formed between the disk enclosures. Additionally, the data storage system is configured to monitor the connections among the disk enclosures and provide updated graphical displays to the user showing any changes to the connections among the disk enclosures. In the event that a connection between two disk enclosures malfunctions or becomes inoperable, the graphical display allows the user to easily identify the location of connection error.
