  • Patent number: 5698854
Abstract: An apparatus adapted for inspecting and measuring the wall thickness of a length of pipe. The apparatus includes a carriage adapted to be movably mounted along the length of pipe, a source emitting a beam of penetrating energy and a detector array having a plurality of detectors arranged in an elongated array. The array receives and measures the intensity of the energy beam. The detector array is mounted on the carriage in a spaced apart relationship with the source so as to allow the diameter of the pipe to pass between them. The detector array is oriented so that its length is positioned generally perpendicular to the intended path of travel. A method is also provided for inspecting and measuring the wall thickness of the pipe. The method includes the steps of providing a length of pipe and an apparatus that includes a source of penetrating energy and a elongated detector array mounted on a carriage.

  • Patent number: 5648996
Abstract: A tangential computer tomography scanner for scanning an object having a cross-section. A radiation source emits a beam of penetrating energy. The beam penetrates an object located within the beam and is received by an array of detectors located opposite the source. A drive device moves the beam relative to said object. The array and the source are arranged so that the beam is maintained perpendicular to the cross-section of the object. The tangential computer tomography scanner generates a full volume data set in a single pass.

  • Patent number: 4989225
Abstract: A dynamic computed tomographic X-ray scanner concurrently translates and rotates an object as it passes through an X-ray field. This compound motion makes it unnecessary to perform sequential passes or to relocate X-ray equipment between passes to complete a scan. A conveyor may carry a series of closely spaced turntables to give greatly increased throughput; and coordinated translation and rotation, whereby all objects give comparable images, permitting the images to be compared to find defective products. Preferred geometries greatly simplify the image reconstruction mathematics, particularly where the X-ray source is at the center of a circular object path.

  • Patent number: 4543490
Abstract: A high density X-ray detector array comprising a large number of photocells produced on a single substrate with the array consisting of a large number of standard size photocells and selective repetitive placing of pairs of smaller width photocells between which the substrate may be interrupted to replace sections thereof should any of the photocells within those sections prove inoperative.
