Abstract: A method is disclosed that includes detecting a temporal loading imbalance in system loading. The imbalance occurs at least at a wireless infrastructure network element in a wireless network. In response to the detecting, one or both of the following are performed: a message is transmitted to a service entity indicating the temporal loading imbalance, the service entity serving one or more video streams to one or more user equipment connected to the wireless network; or one or more modifications are made associated with at least one of the one or more video streams by determining in a current epoch the one or more modifications to apply in one or more upcoming epochs for the at least one video stream, and, in response to the one or more upcoming epochs becoming current epochs, the one or more modifications are applied. Apparatus and program products are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8000304
Abstract: A system, method, and wireless device for determining a forward channel rate for wirelessly communicating information to a wireless communication device is disclosed. The method includes receiving data rate control information from each wireless communication device (104, 106) in a plurality of wireless communication devices (104, 106). The method also comprises requesting a set of information. The data rate control information includes signal strength information associated with each of the wireless communication devices (104, 106). The data rate control information received from each of the wireless communication devices is compared to each other. A modulation and coding scheme is determined for wirelessly communicating the set of information to the plurality of wireless communication devices. The modulation and coding scheme is based on the data rate control information associated with a wireless communication device (104) having a weakest signal strength.

  • Patent number: 7742450
Abstract: A method for routing bearer traffic (70?) between 3G networks (32, 42) and 2G networks (12, 22) and vice versa uses voice signaling gateways (VSGW)(14, 24, 34, 44). The method determines a VSGW nearest the calling party (11). The nearest VSGW directly routes (86) the bearer traffic through the inter-network (50) to the called party (31) and avoids the “tromboning” effect of always sending bearer traffic to the called party's home location.

  • Patent number: 7711382
Abstract: A method for providing dynamic group call among a group of users both wireless (10-30) and wireline (40) places the selectability of the call in the hands of an originating user (10). An originating user (10) may make a fixed number of entries (80). The originating user (10) can create a dynamic group call, add a group call list for later execution, add a member to the group call list, or create a dynamic group call list and immediately execute a group call (92). The method for dynamic group call also provides for selecting a time to live for each group call entry (81) in database (60). This parameter time to live is directly selectable by the originating user (167) or the server. In addition, any member to a previous or existing group call may rejoin or reestablish the dynamic group call (220).

  • Patent number: 7512223
Abstract: A method of assisting an end user is provides. A first assistance request signal is received from a communication device. A communication node determines an assistance center in close proximity to the communication device to provide assistance to the end user. The communication node then forwards a second assistance request signal to the assistance center. The communication node receives a first response signal from assistance center. Finally, the communication node transmits a second response signal to the communication device.

  • Publication number: 20070047544
Abstract: A method and system for conducting a group call between a source electronic device (116) and a plurality of destination electronic devices is disclosed. A packet characterized by a first coding technique and destined towards the plurality of destination electronic devices is received. The packet is processed to identify if at least one of the plurality destination electronic devices uses the first coding technique. The packet is then multiplied to form a plurality of packets. The plurality of packets is sent to the plurality of destination electronic devices using the first coding technique. Further, in case at least one of the plurality of destination devices uses a second coding technique, the packet is transcoded to the second coding technique. The transcoded packet is multiplied to form a plurality of transcoded packets. The plurality of transcoded packets are sent to the plurality of destination electronic devices using the second coding technique.

  • Patent number: 7031273
Abstract: For a network server (35) communicating with a wireless unit (10) via a Session Initiation Protocol, a retransmission method (50) first sets a timer based upon a time likely for a mobile unit to respond (54). Then the network server waits for a response (56). When the timer set for the kind of mobile unit being used expires (64), a retransmit of the original SIP request takes place (68). Optionally, modes for waiting may include a linear mode (72) and an exponential mode (74).
