An output gear that rotates by driving force of the release actuator is provided near the electric open lever, a pair of a first cam projection and a second cam projection with phases shifted from each other by 180 degrees is provided at the output gear, and the output gear is configured such that when the output gear rotates by 180 degrees, the first cam projection abuts against and rotates the electric open lever, and rotation of the output gear is blocked by the second cam projection abutting against the rotated electric open lever.

A ratchet is pivotally secured to the base plate and engages with the latch to allow the door to be held in a closed position. The base plate is fixed to the door or vehicle body with bolts. The striker which engages with the latch is positioned substantially on a straight line between center of the two bolts.

An emergency-operating portion is mounted to the base plate and manually operated at the interior of the vehicle, so that the ratchet is released from the latch, which is then released from the striker. The door can be opened.

The opening and closing apparatus includes a reciprocating member movable along a plane perpendicular to a hinge shaft. A connecting member is provided having a first end section fixed to the opening and closing body, and a second end section pivotally attached to the reciprocating member through a connecting shaft. The opening and closing body is moved to open and close through the connecting member upon a movement of the reciprocating member. In the opening and closing apparatus, the connecting member includes two side wall sections apart from each other in a direction parallel with the axis of the connecting shaft. A suppression member is disposed to a stationary body in the vehicle and so engaged between the two side wall sections as to be relatively movable to the connecting member.
