In an alternate embodiment, the protective circuit is located inside the inner perimeter of a region where the seal material is applied. A third embodiment employs a bifurcated insulating film layer having at least two separate sections. It has become possible with the present active matrix substrate to conduct electrical inspections such that can detect leakage defects among the gate wires and those among the data wires, correct the revealed defects, and confirm the corrections easier at a low cost.
