    Abstract: The invention provides a recording and reproducing apparatus capable of facilitating understanding of the edited portion. If a user wishes to delete a portion of data in a file recording video and audio data, a start point and an end point of the area to be deleted are designated to determine the delete area. In order to confirm the delete editing process, the video to be deleted is displayed as monochrome image when reproducing the file in a temporarily edited state, so that the user can easily understand that the portion of the data is designated to be deleted.
