Patent number: 8569623Abstract: Leading end sides of a plurality of wires to be electrically connected with each other are respectively inserted through a plurality of through holes formed in a waterproof rubber lid and the outer circumferential surfaces of insulating coatings of the respective wires are held in close contact with the inner circumferential surfaces of the respective through holes for sealing. The insulating coatings are peeled off at the passed-through ends of the wires to expose cores. The exposed cores are welded, fusion-bonded, soldered or fastened by a crimping terminal to form a terminal joint section. The terminal joint section is inserted into a protection cap made of a bottomed resin molding through an opening end. The waterproof rubber lid is fitted to an opening end of the protection cap to seal the interior of the protection cap accommodating the terminal joint section without injecting a waterproofing agent into the protection cap.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2008Date of Patent: October 29, 2013Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Katsushi Matsuoka, Naohito Sawamura

Patent number: 8367927Abstract: A waterproofing method is provided for a wire to be arranged in a water susceptible area of a vehicle. An insulating coating layer is removed in a lengthwise intermediate part of the wire to expose a core. A heat shrinkable tube with an inner layer made of a hot-melt waterproofing agent is mounted on the exposed core section and parts of the insulating coating layer adjacent to the exposed core section and heated. As a result, the hot-melt waterproofing agent of the inner layer is melted and infiltrates into clearances between strands of the exposed core section. In addition, negative pressure is introduced into the inside of the insulating coating layer from an end of the wire, thereby sucking the waterproofing agent into the inside of the insulating coating layer to infiltrate the waterproofing agent also between the strands of the core inside the insulating coating layer.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2008Date of Patent: February 5, 2013Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventor: Naohito Sawamura

Patent number: 5332866Abstract: A harness protector assembly can accommodate a desired length of a wire harness to protect it. The harness protector assembly is assembled by two or more protectors and a connector or connectors. Each of the protectors has a bottom plate and a pair of opposed side walls extending upwards from respective sides of the bottom plate, and a projection is formed on an outer surface of each side wall in the proximity of one end thereof. The connector has an upper plate and two pairs of opposed tabs extending downwards from the upper plate. A through-hole is formed in each tab for engagement with the projection formed on each side wall of each protector. The connector also has a thin-wall portion substantially at the center thereof so as to be susceptible to bending. The harness protector assembly can be bent about the thin-wall portion of the connector at a desired angle.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1992Date of Patent: July 26, 1994Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventor: Naohito Sawamura
