  • Publication number: 20080273055
Abstract: For a serial color ink jet printing apparatus that forms an image using a symmetric printing head that ejects large dots and small dots, the configuration of a printing head is provided for suppressing, to the extent possible, a cyclic fluctuation in the main scanning direction. According to the present invention, individual nozzle arrays are arranged so that two nozzle arrays, i.e., a cyan nozzle array c1 and a magenta nozzle array m1, that are located nearer each other, form dots on adjacent scan lines. With this arrangement, a high quality image, having neither an uneven density nor an uneven color, can be formed when a printing head is inclined, or when a cyclic shift in printing positions occurs, depending on the position of the main scanning direction.

  • Publication number: 20080223290
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a liquid applying apparatus which can prevent an applying liquid from evaporating while an applying operation is at a stop and which can reliably prevent the liquid from leaking even when for example, the posture of the apparatus is tilted. Thus, according to the present invention, an abutting member of a holding member is abutted, under an urging force of a spring, against an applying surface of an applying roller. Thus, a liquid holding space is formed between the applying roller and a holding member to hold the applying liquid. The abutting member is annularly formed of a single member. The applying roller rotates to cause the applying liquid held in the holding space to adhere to an outer peripheral surface of the applying roller. The applying liquid is then applied to the applying medium.

  • Publication number: 20080134972
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a liquid applying apparatus which can inhibit a variation in application amount associated with the individual variability of a component of the apparatus. According to the present invention, a liquid holding space in which a liquid is held is formed between the applying member and the liquid holding member. When the applying member moves, the liquid attached to the applying member is fed out of the liquid holding space together with the applying member. The liquid is applied to a medium. The application amount of liquid applied to the applying medium varies depending on the individual variability of a component such as a liquid applying member. The variation in liquid application amount is adjusted by adjusting section for adjusting, the rotation speed of the liquid holding member or the flow speed of the liquid flowing through the liquid holding space.

  • Patent number: 7377619
Abstract: This invention provides a printing apparatus which employs a print head constructed to minimize a memory area to hold ejection data and not requiring a sophisticated manufacturing technology and thus realizes a print mode to perform a higher-than-normal-resolution printing, making it possible to form a high quality image when needed. For each of cyan and magenta that make large contributions to the formation of an image, four nozzle arrays are allocated. For each of the remaining colors, two nozzle arrays are allocated. For cyan and magenta, the interval between adjoining nozzles of the paired two arrays is set to ΒΌ the nozzle pitch. For cyan and magenta, all of the four nozzle arrays are used in the high resolution print mode and, in the normal print mode, only two of the four nozzle arrays are used for printing. Of the paired adjoining nozzle arrays, only one is used.

  • Patent number: 7350893
Abstract: The present invention suppresses the adverse effect of air currents resulting from ink ejection, regardless of the moving speed of a print head, to allow high-grade images to be printed. Input image data is converted into print data corresponding to each of a plurality of nozzle arrays so that an amount of ink droplets ejected from each of the plurality of nozzle arrays and ejected per unit area is different depending on the moving speed of the print head.

  • Patent number: 7315401
Abstract: It is an object of this invention to provide a ternary or higher-order quantization method which avoids close gathering of pixels at a first output level. First and second threshold values Lth1 and Lth2 for ternarization and output values 0 (blank), 1, and 2 as converted output values are set to have a relationship of output value of 0 (blank)<first threshold value Lth1<second threshold value Lth2<output value of 1<output value of 2. This prevents a quantization error from becoming 0 when an input pixel value is an intermediate value, and prevents continuous outputting of only pixels having the output value of 1. When this image is printed, small ink dots corresponding to the output value of 1 are not easily continuously printed. This improves the image quality.

  • Patent number: 7270409
Abstract: A liquid applying apparatus and an ink jet printing apparatus can reduce evaporation that may occur when an application liquid is left in a liquid holding member for a long time. The liquid holding member forms a space between an elastic member and a roller to hold the application liquid. The apparatuses also are capable of preventing the leakage of the liquid from the liquid holding member regardless of a variation in the posture of the apparatus. In collecting the application liquid from the liquid holding member to a storage tank, the apparatuses switch a selector valve to allow an air communicating port and a tube to communicate with each other. The apparatuses further drive a pump to collect the application liquid from a liquid applying member and channel to the storage tank. Once the collecting is finished, the air communicating valve is closed.

  • Publication number: 20070206245
Abstract: Disclosed are an image processing apparatus and method for the purpose of preventing overlapping of dots between two colors in low-density areas in color pseudo-grayscale processing, thereby obtaining excellent placement of the dots of each color. When a color image is binarized, an error is added to a respective one of color components (I0,I1), after which output decision means (2) decides an output value in accordance with the value of the sum in such a manner that the sum of pixel values after conversion will be rendered constant. Error calculation means (3-0, 3-1) calculate differences between pixel values before and after binarization as errors, and error diffusion means (9-0, 9-1) calculate values to be diffused to a neighboring pixel. Weighting coefficients used at such time are decided in accordance with combinations of values of the color components (I0,I1) of pixel values in the original image. The output value decided by the output decision means (2) is printed out by a printer or the like.

  • Publication number: 20070034152
Abstract: When it is determined that an end process flag is not stored in memory, there is a possibility that the recovery operation was not executed normally and the viscosity increased or fixed coating liquid exist in a liquid holding member and liquid flow paths. Therefore, a filling operation for generating stronger fluidization than a normal filling operation is carried out as a filling operation also acting as a restoration operation. That is, a pump is operated at a predetermined rotating speed for a specified time, which is longer than the specified time for the normal filling operation. By this, the viscosity increased coating liquid existing in the liquid holding space and the respective liquid flow paths is re-fluidized to an extent that will not interfere with circulation, and normal filling of the coating liquid is carried out.
