    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for evaluating phagocytic capacity of phagocytes, including incorporating a fluorescent substance into phagocytes in a sample containing whole blood to obtain a measurement sample, standing the measurement sample for 2 minutes or more, measuring the fluorescence of the fluorescent substance, and evaluating the phagocytic capacity of phagocytes based on the intensity of the measured fluorescence, in which the measuring the fluorescence of the fluorescent substance includes irradiating an intermediate region of gravity direction of a placed measurement sample with an excitation light, and detecting the fluorescence generated from the fluorescent substance by the excitation light.
