  • Patent number: 7013052
Abstract: An image processing apparatus collectively manages a variety of image processings. Among the image processings, there are specially designated image processings. If a combination of specially designated image processings which are not mutually compatible is designated, one of the mutually incompatible image processings is rendered invalid. Therefore, the image processing apparatus is able to carry out image processings under appropriate conditions.

  • Patent number: 6765691
Abstract: An image processing method in which an image of an original is read by an image input device, the read image data is converted to density data used when printing onto a photosensitive material, and an image is obtained on the photosensitive material by digital exposure, wherein, when the image data is converted to the density data used when printing onto the photosensitive material, the image data is corrected on the basis of parameters determined by combinations of print finish characteristics, including at least image input device characteristics, kind of original, kind of photosensitive material, and exposure amount characteristics, which affect a print image when the image of the original is printed onto the photosensitive material by an analogue exposure system. On the basis of the above parameters, the density data is obtained while the image data is corrected.

  • Patent number: 6710896
Abstract: There is provided an image processing apparatus comprising an uneven density characteristics acquiring device in which uneven density characteristics associated with at least one of a camera model used to take an image of a photographic film and taking data are acquired, and an image data correcting device for correcting an input image data in accordance with the thus acquired uneven density characteristics. Even images taken on a film with lens or using a compact camera can be corrected not only for the reduction of the marginal luminosity associated with the lens performance itself but also for the uneven marginal luminosity associated with shutter type and shutter speed, and for the variation in the reduction of the marginal luminosity associated with stop-down value, thereby enabling consistent production of natural finished high-quality images that are by no means dark at the edges.

  • Patent number: 6674466
Abstract: The present invention provides an image processing apparatus for reducing the light-dark contrast between a main subject and a background when an image photographed by a camera or the like using an electronic flash is read optically. An image portion corresponding to a wall as a background, where the light amount is reduced, and an image portion corresponding to a person are separated from each other. Only the wall image portion is sampled, the decreased light amount thereof is corrected (addition is carried out) on the basis of the photographing distance to the wall and the light distribution characteristics of the electronic flash, and the light-darkness contrast between the wall image portion and the main subject image portion can be reduced. As a result, image quality can be improved, and an appropriate photographic image can be taken even with an inexpensive and simple camera such as an LF.

  • Patent number: 6658163
Abstract: An image processing method is provided to easily obtain an image, which is similar to that of which tone is intentionally changed using a special filter, without using the special filter. Highlight points are all extracted for an image for which application of striations is indicated, and a region in which a large number of highlight points concentrate, i.e., a region in which a large number of highlight points are located adjacently or closely is extracted as a bright region. Next, a parameter which defines striations to be applied to each bright region based on characteristic amounts such as brightness, size, color tint, and the like of the bright region, and striation data which indicates striations to be applied is generated. By synthesizing the generated striation data with image data and by recording an image on a recording material using the image data, an image of which tone is similar to that of an image photographed using a special filter such as a cross filter is obtained.

  • Patent number: 6633650
Abstract: The image processing apparatus executes predetermined image processing on image data obtained by photoelectrically reading an image photographed on a photographic film through a photographic lens of a camera, and thus obtains the image data for output. The apparatus comprises a unit for obtaining a characteristic of the photographic lens, a unit for developing the characteristic of the photographic lens into a dipping quantity corresponding to a position of the image, and a unit for compensating a marginal light quantity of the image by use of the dipping quantity. The apparatus is capable of compensating a decrease in light quantity of an area peripheral to the image even when the image is photographed through a low-performance lens, and obtaining a high quality image with stability without any darkened peripheral area.

  • Patent number: 6473535
Abstract: An image processing apparatus and method in which proper image processing conditions can be realized by simple operation, even in cases in which it is difficult to automatically obtain proper image processing conditions. A film image recorded on a photographic film is read, and is analyzed based on the image data obtained by reading. Processing conditions for various types of image processings for the image data are calculated. In a process of verifying the calculated processing conditions, if an operator designates correction of density or color balance, the image data is corrected in accordance with the designated correction, the image is reanalyzed based on corrected image data, and processing conditions for image processing, e.g., hyper gradation processing, are recalculated automatically.

  • Patent number: 5751401
Abstract: The improved method of determining the amount of exposure for use with an image forming apparatus reads the red, green and blue densities of an original image on a pixel basis and determines the amount of exposure of a light-sensitive material in accordance with the result of the reading step. In the method, those pixels of the same color which have been found to have red, green and blue densities within respective predetermined ranges as a result of the reading of said original image are added and after at least part of the pixels that represent a color having a greater number of pixels than a specified value are removed, the remaining pixels are used to perform mathematical operations for determining the amount of exposure.

  • Patent number: 5719540
Abstract: The improved method of determining the proper amount of exposure comprises the steps of reading the entire portion of an original image, calculating the characteristic quantities of a principal image in the original image, determining a particular density range from the calculated characteristic quantities of the principal image, extracting only the pixels in said particular density range from the entire portion of the original image to determine the characteristic quantities of the original image, and determining the proper amount of exposure from said characteristic quantities of the original image. When applied to various types of optical image forming apparatus such as copiers, printers and pictographic devices, the method can determine the proper amount of exposure by a simple scanning procedure even if the original to be duplicated is a negative film or other medium having density failure and it hence ensures the formation of the proper and high-quality image in a consistent manner.
