Patent number: 7341381Abstract: A cantilever type latch having the fixed end on the side of exposing the terminal end surface of the optical fiber is provided on the side of the plug housing. Near the center of the upper surface of the latch, an engaging projection which is to be engaged in the engaging hole formed in the adapter or the receptacle is formed. The engaging projection has the slope which decreases the height toward the fixed end side of the latch, in which the gradient of the slope is nearly equal to or greater than the rotation angle required for the elastic deformation of the latch with the fixed end functioned as the fulcrum. Thereby easy disconnecting of the latch is implemented.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2006Date of Patent: March 11, 2008Assignees: The Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd, Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corporation, Fujikura Ltd., Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd.Inventors: Naoko Shimoji, Masato Shiino, Masanobu Toyonaga, Kuniaki Terakawa, Hiroyuki Tanase, Tatsuya Nakajima, Masashi Awamori, Kazuhiro Takizawa, Daigo Saitoh, Kenichiro Ohtsuka, Daizo Nishioka, Masahiro Hamada

Patent number: 6572275Abstract: An optical connector for making connection with a connecting partner side and releasing this connection is provided. The optical connector has an optical connector housing. The optical connector housing is formed by inserting a slider into a base end wall of an arm side member so as to be freely advanced and retreated. A cam following face is formed on an inner wall face of an arm portion of the arm side member. A claw portion is formed on a tip side of the arm portion. An opening angle driving cam member is connected to a tip side of the slider. A ferrule is arranged between the arm portions on a forward side of the opening angle driving cam member. When the slide is moved backward, the opening angle driving cam member is moved backward and is operated to angularly open the arm portion through the cam following face. This opening angle state is maintained by making the opening angle driving cam member abut on a stationary face of the cam following face.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2001Date of Patent: June 3, 2003Assignee: The Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd.Inventors: Naoko Shimoji, Koji Seo, Jun Yamakawa, Shinichi Matsumoto, Masato Shiino, Renichi Yuguchi, Hideki Miyazaki

Patent number: 6352375Abstract: A connector adapter including a light emitting element for emitting a laser beam and connected with a plug having an optical fiber, whereby the laser beam emitted from the light emitting element is introdued into the optical fiber. The connector adapter comprises a shutter member fixed in a connector and including a base portion having a first spring portion and a shutter portion connected to the base portion. The base portion undergoes elastic deformation at the first spring portion so that the shutter portion recedes from the optical path of the laser beam when the plug is pushed into the adapter to be attached thereto, and is restored from the elastic deformation so that the shutter portion intercepts the optical path of the laser beam when the plug is drawn out of the adapter to be detached therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2000Date of Patent: March 5, 2002Assignee: The Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd.Inventors: Naoko Shimoji, Masato Shiino, Masayuki Iwase, Hajime Mori

Patent number: 6086704Abstract: The invention is directed to a method of manufacturing an optical connector according to which it is possible to adjust a projection length a bare optical fiber (7) projects from a connection end surface (3) of a ferrule (1). At a step (a), an optical fiber cored line (5) is inserted through and attached to an optical fiber insertion hole (4) of the ferrule (1), and the bare optical fiber (7) and the ferrule (1) are bonded to each other by hardening a heat-hardening adhesive (11) at a first hardening temperature. Next, at a step (b), the connection end surface (3) is ground so that the connection end surface (3) becomes flat and flush with a tip surface of the bare optical fiber (7). Following this, at a step (c), the heat-hardening adhesive (11) is heated again to be hardened at a temperature which is higher than the first hardening temperature, so that a tip of the bare optical fiber (7), causing pistoning due to the reheat hardening, projects from the connection end surface (3).Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1998Date of Patent: July 11, 2000Assignees: The Furukawa Electric Co.
