  • Publication number: 20170248993
Abstract: Described herein is a hard disk drive that includes a base and a cover. The base includes a closed end, sidewalls, an open end, and one or more corner portions. The sidewalls extend from the closed end, and the open end is defined by the sidewalls. The closed end, sidewalls, and open end define an interior cavity of the hard disk drive. Each corner portion is proximate a respective intersection of the sidewalls and positioned exteriorly of the interior cavity. The cover is welded to the sidewalls over the open end by a weld bead such that the weld bead is positioned between the interior cavity and the corner portions. The weld bead hermetically seals the cover to the base. Furthermore, at least one of the corner portions is at least substantially flush with the cover.

  • Patent number: 9734874
Abstract: In the context of a hard disk drive (HDD), an adhesive leak channel structural feature is positioned in an area at which an electrical feed-through is adhered with an adhesive to an enclosure base, where the leak channel feature inhibits the leakage of gas through the adhesive. Embodiments include providing the leak channel feature on the base and/or on the feed-through. Embodiments may further include application of an electrodeposition coating to the base in an area at which the adhesive is in contact.

  • Patent number: 9672870
Abstract: An electrical feed-through, such as a PCB connector, involves a connector part that includes a housing from which first and second positioning flanges extend from opposing ends. A data storage device includes an enclosure base with which the electrical feed-through is coupled, where the base comprises an annular recessed surface surrounding an aperture that is encompassed by the electrical feed-through, and first and second recessed positioning surfaces extending in directions outward from respective longitudinal ends of the annular recessed surface, where each of the recessed positioning surfaces has a corresponding wall extending vertically therefrom. When assembled, each positioning flange of the electrical feed-through mechanically mates with a corresponding recessed positioning surface of the base, such that the position of the electrical feed-through is constrained by the walls of each recessed positioning surface.

  • Patent number: 9196312
Abstract: A disk drive. The disk drive includes a motor, a base to which the motor is affixed, an actuator supporting a head-slider, and an air-flow control component affixed inside the base. The motor is configured to spin a disk. The actuator is configured to access the disk and to rotate about a pivot shaft to move the head-slider. The air-flow control component includes a plate which faces a recording surface of the disk, and a support portion supporting the plate. The thickness of the plate gradually decreases towards an outflow side of the air-flow control component. The bodies of the plate and the support portion are made of resin; and, a surface of the plate is configured to be held at an electrical potential selected from the group consisting of ground potential and a negative potential.
