  • Patent number: 7330950
Abstract: A storage device is provided with a file I/O interface control device and a plurality of disk pools. The file I/O interface control device sets one of a plurality of storage hierarchies defining storage classes, respectively, for each of LUs within the disk pools, thereby forming a file system in each of the LUs. The file I/O interface control device migrates at least one of the files from one of the LUs to another one of the LUs of an optimal storage class, based on static properties and dynamic properties of each file.

  • Publication number: 20080016070
Abstract: In order to manage the various types of attribute information within the storage system, the storage system includes the following databases within a file-access controlling memory: a database for managing index information for managing contents of the files, and an index retrieval program, a database for managing the attribute information on the files, and a database for managing storage positions of blocks configuring a file. When the storage system receives an access request to a file, the utilization of these databases allows the storage system to make the access to the access-target file.

  • Patent number: 7299333
Abstract: In order to enable an area of each logical volume to be expanded while continuously using the logical volume and to integrate separate logical volumes in a single continuous area, a storage has logical volume control means for controlling the construction of a logical volume, a logical volume number map in which logical volume construction information is described, and copy means for copying the logical volume. By allowing two or more inner logical numbers to be described per external logical number in the logical volume number map, improved flexibility in combining the logical volumes in the storage is achieved. By copying a plurality of separate logical volumes into a physical continuous area by the copy means, the logical volumes are integrated.

  • Patent number: 7240167
Abstract: When a storage apparatus receives a write request for a storage area in LU0, an owner access processing unit judges whether write processing for the storage area is restricted with reference to a lock information table. When it is restricted, the owner access processing unit does not perform write processing for the storage area, and, if it is not restricted, the owner access processing unit sets a write processing restriction in a column of the storage area of the lock information table and performs write processing for the storage area. If other storage apparatuses receive the write request for the same area, the owner access processing unit transmits the lock reservation request to restrict write processing for the area of the LU, and if they receive acceptance of the lock reservation request from this storage apparatus, the owner access processing unit performs write processing for the storage area.

  • Publication number: 20070124550
Abstract: A hybrid-type storage system having both SAN and NAS interfaces can be implemented by simple hardware capable of carrying out a SAN function independently of a NAS function and a NAS load. To be more specific, a controller of the storage system comprises a NAS controller for accepting an I/O command issued for a file unit and a SAN controller for accepting an I/O command issued for a block unit. The NAS controller converts an I/O command issued for a file unit into an I/O command issued for a block unit, and transfers the I/O command issued for a block unit to the SAN controller. The SAN controller makes an access to data stored in a disk apparatus in accordance with an I/O command received from the SAN or from the NAS controller as a command issued for a block unit. The NAS and SAN controllers are capable of operating independently of each other.

  • Patent number: 7222194
Abstract: A backup method for a system including a network attached storage including a primary volume and a secondary volume, and a backup server connected to the network. The network attached storage performs a resynchronization process when a backup request is received at a time point that consistency of a file system can be guaranteed, the resynchronization process making the contents of the primary and secondary volumes coincide with each other, splits the secondary volume from the primary volume and transfers data of the secondary volume to the backup server while an online operation with the primary volume continues. The backup server stores the transferred data in a recording medium. The network attached storage performs again the resynchronization process for making the contents of the primary and secondary volumes coincide with each other, after backup completion.
