  • Patent number: 7133938
Abstract: A general-purpose electronic device, a method of controlling the same, and an information processing system are provided. This electronic device has a function of automatically installing its driver in the information processing system. The driver is stored in the electronic device. The electronic device includes a first device and a second device in which the driver of the first device is stored. The first and second devices generate transactions on a common interface for external connection. The operation of the second device is started before the operation of the first device, and a means is employed to make the driver readable from the second device through the common interface.

  • Publication number: 20060023242
Abstract: An electronic apparatus includes a first device and a second device that stores a driver for the first device. The first device and the second device are capable of generating transactions on a common interface for external connections. The electronic apparatus includes: a setting unit that puts the first device into an enabled state or a disabled state; and a control unit that activates the second device to operate when the first device is put into the disabled state by the setting unit, so that the driver can be read out from the second device via the interface.

  • Publication number: 20050179666
Abstract: An information processing unit for operating a server on a network by remote control includes a key code receiving unit that obtains a key code outputted from a keyboard and saves the key code in a memory, before an operating system obtains the key code, a key code control unit that interrupts a transmission of the key code to the operating system, and a communication unit that transmits the key code saved in the memory to the server. It is thus possible to send the key code outputted from the keyboard or the pointing device data outputted from the pointing device to a KVM device on a network without sending to the OS. In addition, it is possible to directly send the key code outputted from the keyboard or the pointing device data outputted from the pointing device to the application that runs on the OS, instead of sending to the OS. It is thus possible to send a special key to the servers without being affected by another application that is monitoring any key input.

  • Publication number: 20040153571
Abstract: A console switch selectively connects a terminal to a port of an information processing device that has a plural number of ports connected through a network. This console switch includes: a first unit that obtains port information from the terminal, the port information specifying the port; and a second unit that refers to a predetermined database in accordance with the port information obtained by the first unit, and establishes a connection path between the terminal and the port of the information processing device.

  • Publication number: 20030226137
Abstract: The present invention is to provide a KVM device that can perform emulation with any type of device. In this KVM device, firmware for performing a suitable operation for a connected device (KVM) is stored in a memory. The connected device is inspected, and suitable firmware for the device is selected and then installed. The firmware stored in the memory can be rewritten freely. More specifically, the memory is formed by a non-volatile memory so that firmware inputted through an external interface can be stored therein. Thus, the KVM device of the present invention can always cope with the latest type of device.
