  • Publication number: 20120134055
Abstract: According to one embodiment, a head includes a head slider including a bearing surface and configured to fly by an airflow between the recording medium surface and the bearing surface, and a recording element and a reproduction element arranged in an outflow end portion of the head slider with respect to the airflow. The bearing surface includes a first pressure generating portion on an inflow end portion of the head slider with respect to the airflow, configured to generate a pressure, a second pressure generating portion on the outflow end portion, configured to generate a pressure, and a third pressure generating portion between the first and second pressure generating portions at a transverse central part of the bearing surface, configured to generate a pressure higher than that generated by the first pressure generating portion and lower than that generated by the second pressure generating portion.

  • Publication number: 20090182538
Abstract: A unit 101 calculates a plurality of sets of objective functions of sample sets of input parameters. A unit 102 approximates the objective functions using a polynomial on the basis of the calculation result of the unit 101. A unit 103 calculates a logical expression indicating a logical relation between arbitrary two or three objective functions, of the plurality of mathematically approximated objective functions as an inter-objective function logical expression by a QE method. A unit 104 displays areas that the values of the objective functions can take as usable areas according to the inter-objective function logical expression. Units 105 and 106 determine an optimum set of design parameters by limiting the sets of design parameters to corresponding sets of design parameters in the neighborhood of a Pareto boundary on the basis of the Pareto boundary of an objective function recognized from the usable areas displayed.

  • Publication number: 20090182695
Abstract: A logical expression indicating a logical relation between arbitrary two or three objective functions, of a plurality of mathematically approximated objective functions is computed. A feasible region/sensitivity information display unit displays the feasible region in arbitrary objective space according to it. An inverse image computation unit computes a point or area in design space corresponding to arbitrary design parameters in relation to a point or area specified by a user in the feasible region of the objective space. A feasible region/sensitivity information display unit displays the distribution state of the corresponding point or area as sensitivity information in relation to the specified point or area in the feasible region.

  • Publication number: 20090059432
Abstract: Lubricant on a rotating recording medium can attach to a slider, particularly on the pad formed in the proximity of the trailing edge. In the slider of this invention, lubricant is not accumulated in the vicinity of the trailing edge and can be drawn to the trailing edge and dispersed constantly. The head slider includes a center pad formed on an air bearing surface in the vicinity of the center of a trailing edge of the slider. A trailing pad is formed so as to bridge a trailing edge of the center pad and the trailing edge of the slider. The trailing pad is formed lower than a highest surface of the center pad and higher than a lowest surface of the slider.

  • Publication number: 20080068756
Abstract: A front rail is defined on the bottom surface at a position near the inflow end of the slider body. A front air bearing surface is defined on the top surface of the front rail. A rear rail defined on the bottom surface at a position near the outflow end of the slider body. A rear air bearing surface is defined on the top surface of the rear rail. A head element is embedded in the rear rail. A recess is formed at the outflow end of the front air bearing surface. The recess enables a fine adjustment of the flying height, the pitch angle and the roll angle of the head slider.

  • Patent number: 6597540
Abstract: A head arm includes a main body, partially located with a first area above a recordable medium. The main body includes a first surface opposite to the recordable medium and a second surface opposite to the first surface. A hole extends through the main body between the first and second surfaces. The main body also has a first connector portion connectible to a driving portion; and a second connector portion connectible to a head. The through hole is formed on only one side with respect to a line that halves the first area between said first and second connector portions.

  • Patent number: 6124961
Abstract: A scanner scans the scan subject by means of utilizing a rotative movement of a rotatable movable member for rotatably moving on a predetermined rotation axis. A scan mirror is supported by a single support axis. A rotary power of drive motors is converted into a reciprocating motion by crank mechanisms to rotatively move the scan mirror. A rotary angle of the scan mirror is detected by utilizing a principle of an interferometer.
