  • Patent number: 4025182
Abstract: An apparatus in which successive layers of charged particles are transferred, in superimposed registration with one another, to a sheet of support material. The sheet of support material is reciprocated so that successive forward movements thereof are in synchronism with the movement of the charged particles. On the return movement, the sheet of support material is located in a position to initiate the transfer of the next successive layer of particles in superimposed registration with the previously transferred layer of charge particles during the forward movement thereof.

  • Patent number: 4023894
Abstract: Copying apparatus in which an image of charged particles of imaging material is transferred from one supporting surface to a sheet of support material, while the sheet of support material is held on an apertured vacuum belt and an electrical transfer field is applied thereto, where the vacuum belt comprises electrically relaxable material to prevent print-out of the vacuum apertures on the support material. The coping apparatus includes a multiple registered transfer system for color copying with reciprocating of the supporting vacuum belt.

  • Patent number: 4005438
Abstract: Apparatus and method for converting an optical image into an electrostatographic image. A vacuum tube device has a source of electrons which can deposit electrostatic charge on an array of conductors coupling an exterior surface of the vacuum tube device with an exterior surface. A photoconducting electrode, interposed between the electron source and the conductor array, is charged by depositing electrons thereon in the absence of conductivity inducing radiation. The deposited electronic charge is selectively removed by applying an optical image to the photosensitive device, the removal of deposited charge being a function of the radiation intensity of related portions of the applied image. The conductor array is thereafter flooded with electrons, the amount of charge reaching the conductor array depending on the unremoved charge remaining on an associated region of the photosensitive electrode.

  • Patent number: 3976370
Abstract: An electrostatographic copying system in which an image is formed on an imaging surface and transferred at a transfer station to a copy sheet, where the copy sheet is transported through the toner transfer station on a belt which has a pattern of very closely spaced discrete conductive strips which are electrically biased to provide a pattern of electrostatic fringe fields holding the sheet onto the belt. The same conductors may be variably biased in the transfer station to effect tailored transfer fields. The same belt then carries the sheet through the toner fusing station. The copy sheet may thus be continuously carried on the same supporting belt through the entire copying system.

  • Patent number: 3957367
Abstract: A color electrostatographic printing machine in which successive single color powder images are transferred, in superimposed registration with one another, to an intermediary. This multi-layered powder image is fused on the intermediary and transferred therefrom to a sheet of support material forming a copy of the original document.

  • Patent number: 3954333
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for heating an electrically biased transfer roll in an electrostatic reproduction machine so as to improve the transfer of a developed electrostatic image from a photoreceptor to a transfer member during operation of the machine. The roll is heated to maintain the resistivity thereof within a range which will effect optimum transfer, and to alleviate the detrimental effects of ambient temperature changes on the resistivity.
