  • Publication number: 20070230441
Abstract: Described is a device and method for receiving a data packet, the data packet addressed to a plurality of mobile units and determining an operating mode of each of the plurality of mobile units, each of the plurality of mobile units having a first operating mode and a second operating mode. The data packet is transmitted to each of a first set of the mobile units, the first set being in the first operating mode. A signal is transmitted to a second set of mobile units, each of the mobile units in the second set being in the second operating mode, the signal including data instructing the mobile units in the second set to switch to the first operating mode within a predetermined time period. The data packet is then transmitted to the second set of mobile units after expiration of the predetermined time period.

  • Publication number: 20070211727
Abstract: Described is a system and method for scheduling delivery of traffic in a wireless network. The method comprises receiving packets addressed to a plurality of wireless computing units. A classification of each packet is determined. A transmission schedule is generated for the corresponding packet as a function of at least one of the classification and a priority request from at least one of the plurality of units. An indication message is generated as a function of the transmission schedule. A signal including the indication message is wirelessly transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20070094356
Abstract: Described is a method and system for context aware profiling for wireless networks. The system may include a mobile unit and an access point. The mobile unit may includes a plurality of predefined contexts; each context including corresponding network settings. The mobile unit selects one of the predefined contexts and formatting and transmitting a request signal to enable the one of the predefined contexts. The access point includes the plurality of predefined contexts and receives the request signal from the mobile unit. The access point determines if the mobile unit has permission to enable the one of the predefined contexts and sends one of a permission signal and a denial signal to the mobile unit. When a permission signal is sent, the access point and the mobile unit apply the network settings corresponding to the one of the predefined contexts.

  • Publication number: 20070091859
Abstract: Described is a method and system for association of mobile units (“MU”) with an access point (“AP”). Each AP transmits a beacon signal within a corresponding coverage area, each beacon signal including a subnet of Internet Protocol (“IP) addresses being served by the AP transmitting the beacon signal. The MU associates with a first one of the APs and obtaining an IP address from the subnet served by the first AP. When the MU leaves the coverage area of the first AP, the MU receives beacon signals from other ones of the APs and associates with a second AP based on the second AP serving the subnet served by the first AP.
