    Abstract: Systems and processes to produce direct reduced iron with a gaseous reducing stream having less than 10 mol. % nitrogen (N2) and greater than 80 mol. % methane (CH4) are described. A process includes separating N2 from a gaseous stream to produce the reducing stream and contacting the reducing stream with iron ore under conditions sufficient to form direct-reduced iron. The reduction in the N2 content of the reducing stream improves the overall steel producing capacity by at least 2%.

    Abstract: Solar-powered systems and methods of generating hydrogen gas and oxygen gas from water are described. A solar-powered system for generating hydrogen gas and oxygen gas from water includes an electrolysis unit, a first generator unit, and a solar-powered turbine unit. The electrolysis unit is powered by the first generator unit. The solar-powered turbine unit is configured to drive the first generator unit and to supply steam to the electrolysis unit. The solar-powered turbine unit includes a first turbine coupled to and configured to provide shaft work to the first generator unit, a steam generation unit coupled to the steam feed inlet of the electrolysis unit and configured to hold water; and a solar unit configured to generate and provide heat to the steam generation unit.

    Abstract: A method and a system for controlling solvent emissions from a carbon capture unit includes passing solvent through a CO2 absorber and a flue gas effluent stream through the CO2 absorber and in a counter-current direction to the solvent passing through the CO2 absorber. Subsequently, a gas-phase effluent stream from the CO2 absorber is passed through an acid wash and the water wash to reduce an emission of solvent within a gas-phase effluent stream from the acid wash and a gas-phase effluent stream from the water wash. A control logic unit receives and processes a signal from a gas-phase analyzer and a pH sensor and passes a stream of acid wash and acid to the acid wash, and a stream of water wash to the water wash, via respective control valves.
