    Abstract: The present specification discloses a biomarker for diagnosing skin cell damage caused by fine dust, a kit using the same, and a novel use of a composition comprising galangin as an active ingredient. Specifically, it is possible to conveniently check skin damage caused by fine dust by measuring and comparing the expression amounts of the biomarker in normal cells and cells damaged by fine dust. In addition, a composition of the present invention comprising galangin, an isomer thereof, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, a prodrug thereof, a hydrate thereof or a solvate thereof as an active ingredient can normalize the gene expression of skin damaged by fine dust and promote differentiation of skin keratinocytes, thereby having a skin moisturizing or skin-barrier strengthening effect. Accordingly, since the composition can be used to prevent, treat, or alleviate skin diseases such as atopy, psoriasis, etc. the composition is useful.
