    Abstract: Described herein are high-boiling-point-based nanoparticles that release drugs specifically at the focus of ultrasound. The specific conjunction of the high-boiling-point-based nanoparticle formulation with low-frequency ultrasound can be used to deliver therapeutics in a safe and effective manner. The effectiveness and safety of the release is validated in vitro and in non-human primates.

Also described herein are methods for using the nanoemulsions to treat tumors and cancers as well as using them as imaging agents.

The emulsion stabilizer can primarily include a poly(ethylene oxide) block copolymer. These stabilized perfluorocarbon emulsions can be used in liquid and/or hydrogel phases of perfusion bioreactors or various other culture systems to enhance cell viability in thick tissue constructs, or as blood substitutes, although other applications may also be considered.
