Publication number: 20030162151Abstract: A display-responsive learning apparatus that includes a moveable display panel supported in a housing. The display panel includes a front opaque panel attached to circuit board having a plurality of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). A sensor is positioned behind the moveable display panel. In response to a user moving the display panel, the sensor provides a signal to a controller to provide one of a plurality of pre-programmed visual representations to the user. The visual representations include illuminating various patterns of the LEDs that show a successive series of letters of the alphabet, a successive series of numbers, or a smiling face with lips that move in combination with an output of audio sounds from a speaker. The enhanced interactive display panel and visual displays provide an improved method for educational learning and increases its play value.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 17, 2003Publication date: August 28, 2003Inventors: Natasha Berling, Jennifer Long, David A. Patent number: 6517355Abstract: A magnetic writing device including a magnetically responsive writing tablet operatively connected to an automated output is disclosed. In one embodiment, the automated output is a sound produced as the user presses on the magnetic writing tablet. The writing tablet may be rotatably supported within a housing such that as a user presses on the writing tablet with a magnetically attractive stylus, the tablet rotates and engages a switch to activate the output device. In an exemplary embodiment, the switch is an elastomeric switch which activates an electronic sound unit in the housing to produce electronic sounds. The writing device may also include a magnetic eraser rotatably supported within the housing so as to rotate with the tablet. The magnetic eraser preferably engages an eraser surface of the tablet and is slidable there along so as to “erase” an image formed on the writing surface of the tablet.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2001Date of Patent: February 11, 2003Assignee: Hasbro, Inc.Inventors: Jennifer Long, Natasha Berling
