Publication number: 20220244965Abstract: Disclosed herein is a framework to generate ULP, energy-minimal coarse-grain reconfigurable arrays that execute in a spatial vector-dataflow fashion, mapping a dataflow graph spatially across a fabric of processing elements, applying the same DFG to many input data values, and routing intermediate values directly from producers to consumers. The spatial vector-dataflow minimizes instruction and data-movement energy and also eliminates unnecessary a switching activity because operations do not share execution hardware.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 11, 2022Publication date: August 4, 2022Inventors: Brandon Lucia, Nathan Beckmann, Graham Gobieski

Publication number: 20220113975Abstract: Disclosed herein is a highly energy-efficient architecture targeting the ultra-low-power sensor domain. The architecture achieves high energy-efficiency while maintaining programmability and generality. The invention introduces vector-dataflow execution, allowing the exploitation of the dataflows in a sequence of vector instructions and to amortize instruction fetch and decode over a whole vector of operations. The vector-dataflow architecture allows the invention to avoid costly vector register file accesses, thereby saving energy.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 13, 2021Publication date: April 14, 2022Inventors: Brandon Lucia, Nathan Beckmann, Graham Gobieski

Patent number: 9858393Abstract: Technology for semantic compression is disclosed. In various embodiments, the technology receives data that represents one or more physical attributes sensed by one or more sensors; employs at least one pattern or statistical feature to identify a first region and a second region in the received data; computes a first utility and a first relevant feature for the first region, and a second utility and a second relevant feature for the second region; and identifies based on at least the first utility and the second utility a first compression method to apply to the first region and a second compression method to apply to the second region wherein the first and the second compression methods have different compression rates, different feature preservation characteristics, or both.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2010Date of Patent: January 2, 2018Assignee: EMPIRE TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT LLCInventors: Nathan Beckmann, Miodrag Potkonjak

Patent number: 8458489Abstract: Differential uncloneable variability-based cryptography techniques are provided. The differential cryptography includes a hardware based public physically uncloneable function (PPUF) to perform the cryptography. The PPUF includes a first physically uncloneable function (PUF) and a second physically uncloneable function. An arbiter determines the output of the circuit using the outputs of the first and second PUFs. Cryptography can be performed by simulating the PPUF with selected input. The output of the simulation, along with timing information about a set of inputs from where the corresponding input is randomly selected for simulation, is used by the communicating party that has the integrated circuit with the PPUF to search for an input that produces the output. The input can be configured to be the secret key or a part of the secret key.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2010Date of Patent: June 4, 2013Assignee: Empire Technology Development LLCInventors: Nathan Beckmann, Miodrag Potkonjak
