  • Publication number: 20090192253
Abstract: This invention relates generally to compositions of macrocyclic polyester oligomer (MPO), polycaprolactone, and a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). More particularly, in certain embodiments, the invention relates to recyclable tooling compositions made from MPO, polycaprolactone, and a thermoplastic copolyester elastomer.

  • Publication number: 20070216067
Abstract: Concentrates of a carbon-based filler—such as carbon nanotubes, exfoliated graphite, and the like—and a macrocyclic polyester oligomer (also referred to herein as macrocyclic oligoester or MPO) are presented. When mixed with polymer, the MPO can act as a flow modifier, as well as a carrier for the carbon-based filler, allowing enhanced processability of the polymer-filler composite without adversely affecting the properties of the composite.

  • Publication number: 20070173630
Abstract: This invention relates generally to the use of macrocyclic polyester oligomers, and certain other cyclic oligomers, as additives in linear thermoplastics for improved flow and/or processibility. More particularly, in certain embodiments, the invention relates to compositions containing up to about 10 wt. % cyclic oligomer, and their use in manufacturing processes, such as injection molding operations.

  • Publication number: 20060066012
Abstract: A method and system for forming a polymer nanocomposite. A peroxide-degradable polymer, a clay, and a peroxide are mixed to form a polymer-clay-peroxide mixture. The polymer-clay-peroxide mixture is then heated forming a polymer-clay-peroxide melt containing peroxide radicals. The result is a degradation of the peroxide-degradable polymer within the melt to form smaller molecular weight polymer chains using the peroxide radicals and a diffusion of said polymer chains into the clay within the melt so as to exfoliate the clay to form the polymer nanocomposite having exfoliated clay being randomly dispersed throughout the polymer nanocomposite.
