  • Patent number: 8974381
Abstract: An anterior cervical retractor comprises a first medial-lateral retractor body having a base arm and a moving arm and a pair of retractor blades. The retractor blades may be side loading or top loading. The cervical retractor comprises a second cranial-caudal retractor body having a pair of moving arms and a pair of retractor blades. The retractor blades may have an adjustable angulation. The retractor blades may also be fixed to the spine and provide distraction upon operation of the second retractor body. The blades of the first retractor body and/or the second retractor body may be coupled to light elements that illuminate the operative corridor between the blades.

  • Patent number: 8900137
Abstract: An anterior cervical retractor comprises a retractor body having a base arm and a moving arm and a pair of retractor blades having a side loading blade and a top loading blade. The base arm includes a first track and a side loading connector. The first track extends perpendicularly from a proximal end of the base arm and the first track includes an articulating arm post and a gear teeth. The moving arm is located opposite to the base arm and includes a first track receptacle and a top loading connector. The moving arm is advanced along the first track by means of a knob extending from the base arm. • Patent number: 8840622
Abstract: This disclosure describes a guide assembly for guiding the installation of a spinal fusion implant to a surgical target site. The guide assembly includes a pair of arm members and a handle assembly that functions to clamp the arm members in locked and unlocked positions. The guide assembly interacts with an inserter to guide a spinal implant to the target site. Once the implant is inserted within the disc space, the guide assembly can be partially disassembled to facilitate removal from the surgical target site.

  • Patent number: 8535320
Abstract: Instruments and methods for creating an operative corridor to the spine are described. The instruments include, for example, a retractor assembly with at least one retractor blade that may be releasably coupled to a bone anchors via a hoop shim. The hoop shim includes a shim portion that may slidably engage the retractor blade and a hoop portion extending from the shim portion that includes an aperture that receives the bone anchor. The hoop portion may have an unlocked configuration that allows passage of the bone anchor and a locked position which prevents passage of the bone anchor to releasably couple the hoop shim to the bone anchor. The hoop shim may be configured to couple to the bone anchor such that the hoop shim may angulate relative to the bone anchor.

  • Patent number: 8435269
Abstract: Instruments and methods for creating an operative corridor to the spine and performing a spinal fusion. The instruments including, for example, a retractor assembly with a plurality of retractor blades, at least two pedicle screws, and a connecting rod. The retractor blades are coupled to the pedicle screws such that the operative corridor is registered to known anatomical landmarks aiding the surgeon with intraoperative orientation and anatomy identification. The retractor blades may be coupled to the pedicle screws via a polyaxial connection such that the angle of the operative corridor may be adjusted while maintaining the registration to the landmarks. Rod receivers may be attached to the pedicle screws after the disc space is operated on to minimize encumbrances on the working space within the operative corridor. A connecting rod is subsequently locked to the receivers to fix the spinal segment.

  • Patent number: 8343163
Abstract: An implant installation device is provided for delivering an implant to a target implantation site including a handle with a first and second arms extending distally therefrom. A translation member extends through the handle such that a distal portion lies between the first arm and second arm while a proximal portion extends beyond the proximal end of the handle. An inserter is coupled at the distal end of the translation member and also lies between the first arm and second arm. With an implant positioned proximate the distal end of the inserter, the distal ends of the arms may be inserted between the pair of vertebrae. The translation member may be operated to drive the inserter distally, which in turn pushes the implant toward the implantation site.

  • Publication number: 20070287888
Abstract: A suction unit is placed inside the handle of a laryngoscope to allow portable suction to be utilized during intubation without requiring multiple devices. The suction tip can be attached to the distal end of the laryngoscope blade. Replacing the light on a laryngoscope with an LED allows for a small watch-sized battery to be used instead of current large batteries taking up the handle space. This opens up the handle space to make room for the suction unit. Evacuated fluids and discharge exit into a tube and into a portable receptacle.
