  • Patent number: 9047804
Abstract: Processing of a digital image includes using a machine to convert numerical representations of colors in the digital image to lexical representations of the colors. The lexical representations may be used for image processing such as color reproduction. Examples of lexical-based color reproduction include, without limitation, using the lexical representations to perform color correction of an image display device, identifying potential problems with color shifts, generating statistics about lexical boundary crossings, and developing image processing pipelines.

  • Patent number: 8936279
Abstract: Advertisements in instances of a product are customized prior to distributing the instances to different recipients. Information about the different recipients is received, and information about vendor interest with respect to advertising in the product is received. Customized advertisements are generated for each instance of the product. The customized advertisements in each instance reflect a convergence of the vendor interest and the recipient information. The convergence occurs before the instances are created. As a result, advertising in different instances is customized for the different recipients.

  • Patent number: 8762419
Abstract: A method of applying a color modifier to a color having a corresponding color name. The method involves receiving a color modifier and a color name and determining a displacement value corresponding to the received color modifier. Determining a displacement value corresponding to the received color modifier involves reference to a color naming database including a set of color modifiers having corresponding color-attribute displacement values. The color modifier is applied to the color name by applying the displacement value to a color value corresponding to the color name.

  • Patent number: 7532759
Abstract: A method and system for selecting image elements, such as image pixels or vectors, of a digital image provide a set of lexical classifiers, such as a set of color names, which characterize a visual attribute of the image elements such as color. A lexical classifier is assigned to each image element, e.g. by a transform between the image element color values under the original numerical color encoding model of the image and the set of lexical classifiers. A reference lexical classifier is selected, e.g. by selecting an image element and determining its associated lexical classifier, and the image elements are then selected if their lexical classifier corresponds to the reference lexical classifier. The selected image elements may then be acted on as a group.

  • Patent number: 7466321
Abstract: A user provides a plurality of video frames for processing, and selects a cartoon color palette. The color of all selected pixels within all selected video frames is changed to that of the closest match in color within the cartoon color palette and is stored in a memory. • Patent number: 6919905
Abstract: A method for calibrating a display using a plurality of visual stimuli. A plurality of visual stimuli having an associated digital count and an associated position are displayed. The digital count of each of the visual stimuli are adjusted wherein the plurality of visual stimuli are ordered and there are perceived lightness differences between the visual stimuli. An offset is estimated based on the digital count and the position of the visual stimuli. A gain is estimated based on the offset. A gamma is estimated based on the gain, the offset, the digital count and an estimate of luminance of the visual stimuli. An average gamma is estimated by determining the average value of the gamma for the plurality of visual stimuli. In one embodiment, the visual stimuli are a series of patches positioned in a row, each patch of having a pre-assigned gray level and having a visual control to lighten or darken the visual stimuli, wherein the gray level corresponds to the digital count.

  • Patent number: 6832824
Abstract: In one form of the invention, one sensor determines mutual alignment of pens; a second sensor measures color of dots formed on a print medium by the pens. Another form has two carriages—one moving pens to mark on a medium and the second used to refine quality of images produced. In a third form, a sensor measures color of test patterns by one or more pens; a hood—generally around the sensor laterally relative to a sensing direction—excludes ambient light from the sensor during measuring; a mechanism advances the hood along the sensing direction toward the patterns. In a fourth form, a pen ejects multiple liquid-ink drops onto a medium, and a sensor infrequently measures color of resulting dots—only when the pen is not forming images. In addition to these four forms of the invention, three others are detailed in the text.
