  • Patent number: 9671791
Abstract: Techniques for managing a flow of an unmanned vehicle within a space may be described. In particular, the unmanned vehicle may be determined as being location within the space. The space may be associated with metric that may be based on a plurality of other unmanned vehicles also located within the space. Pairs of location and time data may be computed for the unmanned vehicle. The pairs may represent a path for the unmanned vehicle to use within the space. The pairs of location data and time data computed based on data associated with the unmanned vehicle, data associated with at least one of the other unmanned vehicles, and the metric associated with the space. Once computed, the pairs may be provided to the unmanned vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20170136430
Abstract: Disclosed is a system that can mix deionized water and concentrated sheath fluid to provide sheath fluid in a flow cytometer system having a desired concentration. Flow rates are low, which substantially match the flow rate of sheath fluid through the nozzle, so that turbulence and air bubbles are not formed in the sheath fluid. The available deionized water is then used for back flushing and removal of sample cells and deposited salts from the sheath fluid.

  • Patent number: 9636596
Abstract: A balloon display device configured to create displays representative of digital images. The device may comprise a processor configured to transmit instructions for creating the display to a display panel, which comprises one or more balloon boxes. Each balloon box may comprise at least one balloon coupled to a pneumatic control. An electronic control can be configured to receive instructions for turning on or off specified valves to inflate or deflate the balloon. An associated method may comprise converting a digital image into readable instructions for creating a balloon display. The instructions, which may comprise commands for inflating or deflating a balloon, may then be transmitted to the display device and executed to create the display.

  • Patent number: 9610531
Abstract: A system and method for particle enlargement with continuously wetted wicks includes a container into which a flow of particle-laden air is introduced in a laminar manner through an inlet and to an outlet. The container has a first section, a second section and a third section though which the particle-laden air flows between the inlet and the outlet. The temperature of the second section is warmer than that of the first section at the inlet and the third section at the outlet. In one embodiment, a continuous wick spanning an interior wall of the first second, second section and third section, said wick being capable of internally transporting liquid water along its length is provided.

  • Publication number: 20170051735
Abstract: A method and apparatus for pumping fluid through tubing are provided. The method includes orbiting first rollers around the periphery of a first disk at a first tangential speed in a first angular sector and a slower, second tangential speed in a second angular sector, orbiting second rollers around the periphery of a second disk at the second tangential speed, and increasing the pressure of fluid in tubing between one first roller and one second roller by causing the one first roller to fully compress the tubing at the first tangential speed and simultaneously causing the one second roller to fully compress the tubing at the second tangential speed. The apparatus includes a first disk with a recess in its periphery, the first angular sector with a nominal first radius, and a second angular sector with a nominal second radius; and a second disk with the nominal first radius and a recess in its periphery.

  • Patent number: 9551637
Abstract: Disclosed is a sheath delivery system that uses a continuous flow of sheath fluid into a pressurized internal reservoir that substantially matches the outflow of sheath fluid through the nozzle of a flow cytometer. A substantially constant level of the sheath fluid is maintained. If the sheath fluid level falls below a desired level, or goes above a desired level, a dampened control system is used to reach the desired level. In addition, air pressure in the pressurized internal container is controlled so that an external sheath container can be removed and refilled with additional sheath fluid without stopping the sheath delivery system 100. Differences in pressure are detected by a droplet camera, which measures the droplet breakoff point to determine the pressure of the sheath fluid in the nozzle.

  • Publication number: 20160375607
Abstract: A manufacturing line includes a tape of green material that is directed through a furnace so that the furnace burns off organic binder material and then partially sinters the tape without the use of a setter board. Sintered articles resulting from the manufacturing line may be thin with relatively large surface areas; and, while substantially unpolished, have few sintering-induced surface defects. Tension may be applied to the partially sintered tape as it passes through a second furnace on the manufacturing line to shape resulting sintered articles.

  • Publication number: 20160378108
Abstract: This disclosure describes a collective UAV in which multiple UAVs may be coupled together to form the collective UAV. A collective UAV may be used to aerially transport virtually any size, weight or quantity of items, travel longer distances, etc. For example, rather than using one large UAV to carry a larger or heavier item, multiple smaller UAVs may couple together to form a collective UAV that is used to carry the larger or heavier item.

  • Patent number: 9493213
Abstract: The inventive technology comprises a wake surf shaper that can be used to modify the wake of a watercraft to make it more “surfable.” It has been discovered that removably attaching the inventive wake surf shaper to one side of a boat's hull interrupts the flow of water diverted around one side of the bow applying force to the hull in such a manner as to dam the column of water diverted around the opposite side of the bow such that the release of water creates an increased wake behind the boat.

  • Publication number: 20160273564
Abstract: Examples of the disclosure enable a printed circuit board to be coupled to a chassis. In some examples, a coupling mechanism includes a first body including a head portion and a shaft portion that has an inner surface defining a channel. The coupling mechanism includes a second body including a head portion and a shaft portion. At least a part of the second body shaft portion is positionable within the channel. An outer surface of the second body shaft portion is sized to enable the second body shaft portion to expand radially or move laterally within the channel when the part of the second shaft portion is positioned within the channel. Examples of the disclosure enable the printed circuit board to be coupled to a chassis in low-profile, reduced-stress manner.

  • Publication number: 20160247407
Abstract: This disclosure is directed to a detection and avoidance apparatus for an unmanned aerial vehicle (“UAV”) and systems, devices, and techniques pertaining to automated object detection and avoidance during UAV flight. The system may detect objects within the UAV's airspace through acoustic, visual, infrared, multispectral, hyperspectral, or object detectable signal emitted or reflected from an object. The system may identify the source of the object detectable signal by comparing features of the received signal with known sources signals in a database. The features may include, for example, a multispectral signature emitted or reflected by the objet. Furthermore, a trajectory envelope for the object may be determined based on characteristic performance parameters for the object such as cursing speed, maneuverability, etc. The UAV may determine an optimized flight plan based on the trajectory envelopes of detected objects within the UAV's airspace.
