  • Publication number: 20070046651
Abstract: A device for detecting the position of a human finger or other object on a touch-sensitive scrolling pad. Dual independent oscillators may be used to generate two pulse trains at frequencies dependent upon the capacitance of two conductors resulting from the position of the finger on the conductors. The pulses from each oscillator may be counted over a time interval. A ratio-metric measurement may be taken by calculating the ratio of the two counts, and a sum may also be calculated. The ratio of the two counts relates to finger position on the device, and their sum relates to finger pressure upon the device.

  • Publication number: 20070013660
Abstract: A system and method for providing a continuous input mode is disclosed. In the continuous input mode, a combination of a vector signal and a command signal is received from an input device. Upon receipt of a vector signal and a command signal, an image is moved on a display screen, for example. The image continues to move until the command signal is terminated. If a new vector signal is received prior to termination of the command signal, then the direction of image movement may be changed and will occur until termination of the command signal. Additional aspects of the present invention relate to input devices and computer-readable media with computer executable instructions utilized in switching between the input modes.

  • Publication number: 20060290664
Abstract: An input device having a pointing mode and a joystick mode is disclosed. The input device includes a housing, a tracking assembly, and at least one actuator. In some aspects of the invention, a controller is located within the housing to receive input from the tracking assembly and the actuator, and the controller transmits a pointing device recognition signal and a joystick device recognition signal to a host upon connection of the input device to the host. In another aspect of the invention, the actuator may be utilized to switch between a repeat and center mode, wherein the input device repeats a joystick signal when in the pointing mode and the hold mode. Additional aspects of the present invention relate to systems, methods, and computer-readable media with computer executable instructions.

  • Publication number: 20060282556
Abstract: A peripheral device is connectable to a computer having one of a first interface and a second interface. The first interface communicates with the peripheral device over a differential data connection having a first data conductor and a second data conductor. The second interface communicates with the peripheral device over a clock conductor and a single ended data connection which includes a data conductor. The peripheral device has first and second communication conductors configured for connection to the first and second data conductors in the differential data connection when the computer includes the first interface and is configured for connection to the first data conductor in the single ended data connection and the clock conductor when the computer is provided with the second interface.
