Patent number: 12706504Abstract: An e-machine system includes an e-machine with a rotating group and a housing. The rotating group is supported for rotation within the housing. Also, the e-machine system includes an electrical component that is electrically connected to the e-machine. The electrical component includes at least one of an electrical terminal and a coolant passage for a fluid coolant. Moreover, the e-machine system may include a support bracket that supports and retains the electrical component outside the housing. The support bracket includes an aperture for the at least one of the electrical terminal and the coolant passage.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2023Date of Patent: August 11, 2026Assignee: GARRETT TRANSPORTATION I INC.Inventors: Philippe Arnold, Peter Davies, Michael Ladonnet, Nathaniel Bontemps

Publication number: 20250052257Abstract: A turbocharger for an internal combustion engine or fuel cell includes a compressor having a liquid-cooled backplate through which a liquid coolant is circulated. The backplate reduces compressor outlet temperature, thereby reducing the cooling load on the intercooler for the engine, and enabling a reduction in charge air temperature entering the engine air inlet manifold. The compressor can include a serial two-stage compressor, in which case the backplate serves as a divider between the two impellers. In another variation, a turboexpander is combined on the same shaft with a single-stage compressor having the liquid-cooled backplate. Pressurized air from the compressor drives the turbine wheel of the turboexpander, expanding and reducing the temperature of the air before being fed to the engine.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2023Publication date: February 13, 2025Applicant: Garrett Transportation I Inc.Inventors: Philippe Arnold, Nathaniel Bontemps, Peter Davies

Publication number: 20190330995Abstract: A turbocharger having a divided turbine housing scroll includes separate first and second exhaust gas conduits for feeding separate streams of exhaust gas to two separate scrolls in the turbine housing. A cross-scroll communication control valve in the turbine housing is operable to selectively allow or prevent two separate streams of exhaust gas in the turbine housing to fluidly communicate with each other. The valve member rotates about a valve axis that is parallel to a flow axis along with the exhaust gas flows in the exhaust gas conduits. The valve member tapers in the flow direction. In a first position, the valve member has walls that close off a cross-communication opening between the two exhaust gas conduits, thereby isolating the conduits from each other. In a second position, a through-passage of the valve member becomes aligned with the cross-communication opening to allow cross-talk between the two conduits.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 25, 2018Publication date: October 31, 2019Applicant: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Nathaniel Bontemps, Michael Ladonnet, Alain Lombard, Philippe Arnold, Alain Bas, Nandor Pallag, Denis Jeckel, Ludek Pohorelsky
