  • Patent number: 12638028
Abstract: A passenger restraint apparatus includes a plurality of fluid powered actuators and multiple switchable valves. Each fluid powered actuator includes a movable element, a first fluid chamber and a second fluid chamber, wherein the movable element moves in a first direction when a fluid flows into the first fluid chamber or in a second direction when the fluid flows into the second fluid chamber. A switchable valve includes a first port and a second port, the first port coupled to the first fluid chamber of each fluid powered actuator and the second port coupled to the second fluid chamber of each fluid powered actuator via separate one-way valves to enable movement of the movable element of each fluid powered actuator in the first direction and to prevent movement of the movable element of each fluid powered actuator in the second direction when the switchable valve is in an ON state.
