Abstract: A tag controller is configured to interface with a plurality of security tags adapted to be disposed on a corresponding plurality of products in a monitoring environment. The tag controller includes processing circuitry configured to receive information indicative of movement of two or more security tags, determine whether tag grouping criteria are met, define the two or more security tags as a tag group in response to the tag grouping criteria being met, and initiate a tag group tracking protocol to track further movement of the tag group.
