  • Publication number: 20230241552
Abstract: A method for managing and controlling nitrogen emission from a cyclic liquor flow system in a pulp mill (1), the pulp mill (1) comprising a recovery system (20) for recovering heat and chemicals from a pulping process (30), the recovery system (20) comprising a recovery boiler (8) and a nitrogen oxide scrubber (15), the nitrogen oxide scrubber (15) being arranged to remove nitrogen oxide from flue gas (16) from the recovery boiler (8), the method comprising the steps of: —exposing flue gas (16) from the recovery oiler (8) to an oxidizing agent, thereby oxidising nitrogen oxide in the flue gas (16) to higher nitrogen oxides; —contacting the flue gas (16) with an alkaline aqueous scrubber liquid (17) in the nitrogen oxide scrubber (15), thereby absorbing the nitrogen oxides in the scrubber liquid (17) and producing a nitrogen containing scrubber liquid (17); —introducing all or a part of the nitrogen containing scrubber liquid (17) into the cyclic liquor flow system.

  • Publication number: 20230183920
Abstract: A method for removing ammonia (NH3) from a gas produced in a pulp mill (100). The method comprises producing raw non-condensable gas comprising ammonia (NH3) in the pulp mill (100) and transferring at least some of the raw non-condensable gas to a scrubber (200) containing aqueous scrubbing solution (130, 140). The method comprises adding a compound capable of decreasing a pH of the scrubbing solution to the scmbbing solution (130, 140) and in the scrubber (200), contacting the raw non-condensable gas with the scmbbing solution (130, 140), to react the ammonia (NH3) of the raw non-condensable gas with the scmbbing solution to produce clean non-condensable gas and ammonium (NH4+). A pulp mill comprising equipment for performing the method.

  • Patent number: 11376546
Abstract: A method for producing aqueous hydrochloric acid from flue gases is provided. The method comprises conveying water to a first scrubber (102, 202, 302, 402, 502, 602, 702) or to a line (112b, 212b, 312b, 412b, 512b, 712b, 712c) to use the water in a scrubbing liquid of the first scrubber. The method also comprises providing flue gas containing chlorides into the first scrubber (102, 202, 302, 402, 502, 602, 702) and scrubbing the flue gas containing chlorides with the scrubbing liquid by contacting the flue gas with the scrubbing liquid in the first scrubber (102, 202, 302, 402, 502, 602, 702). Dilute hydrochloric acid and a flue gas derivate (104, 204, 304, 404, 504, 704) are produced.

  • Publication number: 20220081834
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for treating vapours released from lignocellulose biomass during acid treatment at elevated temperature of the lignocellulose biomass. The process comprises condensing (3) the vapours to produce a condensate, adjusting (4) the pH of the condensate to about 9, and decanting (5) the condensate to produce turpentine, and may further comprise distilling (6) the mixture remaining after decanting to produce furfuraland a reject comprising tall oil fatty acids. The invention also relates to a corresponding system for treating vapours released from lignocellulose biomass during acid treatment at elevated temperature of the lignocellulose biomass.
