Patent number: 7650401Abstract: Managing object relationships in an enterprise is presented. A request manager receives a view request from a user. The request manager retrieves a management definition object (MDO) and a perspective that corresponds to the view request, which the request manager uses to generate a view that includes nodes corresponding to an enterprise's objects. The user analyzes the generated view, and sends a command request to the request manager that corresponds to a plurality of the nodes. The request manager uses the retrieved perspective, the MDO, and also may access a backend in order to identify objects that correspond to the command request. Once the objects are identified, the command manager sends a command to the identified objects to the backend through plug-ins.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2008Date of Patent: January 19, 2010Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Samar Choudhary, Naveenkumar V Muguda

Patent number: 7636919Abstract: A user centric policy creation and enforcement system, method and apparatus. The method can include observing state changes and action invocations in disparate applications through visual views of the applications. Correlations can be established between the observed state changes and action invocations. Rules can be formulated in a policy based upon user selected ones of the established correlations. Each of the rules can specify a state change in at least one of the applications. Each of the rules further can specify at least one resulting action invocation in at least one other of the applications. Finally, the policy can be applied so as to automatically respond to each subsequently observed state change with a specified action invocation.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2003Date of Patent: December 22, 2009Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Samar Choudhary, John R. Publication number: 20090094267Abstract: System and method for implementing metadata extraction on a data processing system. A natural language processor receives a document and accesses commentary related to the document. In response to accessing commentary related to the document, the natural language processor processes the commentary to generate data structures corresponding to the commentary. Rules are executed on these data structures to generate metadata for the document.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 4, 2007Publication date: April 9, 2009Inventor: Naveenkumar V. Muguda

Patent number: 7496626Abstract: A system and method for role pen based messaging in a collaborative environment is presented. Online users utilize clients and a server to collaborate in a distributed presentation. One of the users is a presentation leader and sends presentation content to the server which distributes the presentation content to participating users. One of the users wishes to send a comment to a subset of the participating users. The user selects a role pen from a role pen stand whereby the role pen corresponds to a subset of the participating users. The user then generates a comment using his keyboard and/or mouse pointer, and the user's client sends the comment to recipient users' clients that correspond to the role pen. The recipient users' clients display the comment in the same window as the distributed presentation. Participating users that do not correspond to the role pen do not receive the comment.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2003Date of Patent: February 24, 2009Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Shrinivas S. Publication number: 20090030990Abstract: An interactive teleconference includes a text messaging session between a first user and second user. A collaborative pipe is attendant to, but invisible to, the text messaging session. The collaborative pipe allows artifacts, from a first application used by the first user, to be transmitted to a second application used by the second user without underlying logic in the text messaging session being aware of the artifact transmission.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 25, 2007Publication date: January 29, 2009Inventor: Naveenkumar V. Publication number: 20090019120Abstract: Described herein is a metadata-enhanced instant-messaging application and device. The metadata-enhanced instant-messaging application can create and receive instant-messages that contain data and metadata. The metadata, for example, can contain a type that relates to the data. The metadata-enhanced instant-messaging application can analyze the metadata, such as by ascertaining the type contained or described within the metadata. Furthermore, the metadata-enhanced instant-messaging application can associate the data and metadata based on the information in the meta-data, such as by reading the type contained within the metadata and associating software application that can consume the data and metadata described by the type. In addition, the metadata-enhanced instant-messaging application can provide the data and metadata to the software application to consume the data and metadata.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 13, 2007Publication date: January 15, 2009Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Naveenkumar V. Patent number: 7269610Abstract: A system and method to observe user behavior and perform actions on interospectable objects is presented. A console logs backend events it receives from plug-ins and user actions it receives from a user. The console mines the logged entries and creates initial rules in response to mining the log entries. The console proceeds through a series of steps using the initial rules' cause nodes and effect nodes to generate deduced rules. The deduced rules include global user actions and global backend events. When the console receives subsequent backend events, the console matches the backend events with one of the global backend events included one of the deduced rules, and performs a corresponding global user action.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 2004Date of Patent: September 11, 2007Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Samar Choudhary, Naveenkumar V.
