Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for programmatic evaluation of document workflows. An example of the method includes receiving a document workflow object, the document workflow object comprising a string defining a set of rule criteria and an indicator of at least one task to be performed in response to meeting the set of rule criteria, storing the document workflow object in an object datastore, the object datastore stored in a memory, evaluating the document workflow object using a workflow engine executed on a processor, and, in response to evaluating the document workflow object, executing, by the workflow engine, the at least one task.
