  • Patent number: 10952104
Abstract: Systems and methods for a user equipment operating in a cellular-preferred mode are disclosed. A user equipment operating in a cellular-preferred mode includes a connection priority order that prefers to connect to a licensed cellular network, if available, before connecting to an unlicensed wireless network. Signal quality thresholds for a connection by a user device to licensed cellular networks and unlicensed wireless networks are selected allowing the user equipment to transfer its connection between a licensed cellular network and an unlicensed wireless network without dropping calls. A user interface provides information to alert a user from inadvertently roaming into a licensed cellular network and incurring additional unnecessary changes.

  • Patent number: 10064241
Abstract: The described implementations provide devices, systems, and methods that offload the usage of a cellular network using dynamic selection of broadband network connections such as wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) access points. A Wi-Fi transceiver on a mobile device may be activated when certain conditions (e.g., trigger events) are met. These conditions may include when, for instance, a cellular signal is dropped to 2G, weak or no cellular coverage is detected, a data use limit has been reached, an associated device is in domestic or international roaming or a particular location, and/or an associated device is in a saved private network area.

  • Publication number: 20180152908
Abstract: In instances where a user equipment (UE) encounters an issue during an attempt to subscribe for registration status, the UE is configured with improved logic for handling the encountered issue. For instance, the UE may transmit a number of subsequent registration requests up to a predetermined number of registration requests before ultimately refraining from transmitting any additional registration requests. The UE may also wait until a lapse of a period of time before transmitting any next registration request and/or subscription request, thereby giving the carrier network sufficient time to resolve any recoverable issues before transmitting a next registration request and/or subscription requests. On subsequent iterations, the time period may be incremented to provide longer and longer wait times before transmitting subsequent registration requests and/or subscription requests.

  • Patent number: 9867098
Abstract: Wi-Fi calling using a mobile device and an evolved packet data gateway (ePDG) is described herein. For example, a mobile device may determine whether any LTE coverage is available, whether data roaming is available, whether a visited public land mobile network (VPLMN) is available, and whether a DNS query to a visited ePDG (VePDG) is successful. The mobile device may connect to the VePDG responsive to a determination that LTE coverage is available, that data roaming is available, that a VPLMN is available, and that the DNS query to the VePDG is successful. Otherwise, the mobile device may connect to a home ePDG (HePDG).
