Patent number: 7451207Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for predictive provisioning of functional packages based on offered traffic and a predictive model of the offered traffic. According to one embodiment of the invention, a managed agent provides predictions regarding an anticipated need for functional package provisioning based on traffic offered to the managed agent and a predictive model of offered traffic. A provisioning agent receives the predictions and in response to the predictions instructs the managed agent to provision a new functional package. According to another embodiment of the invention, the provisioning agent instructs a second managed agent to provision the media resource needed by the original managed agent. The traffic is then routed from the original man aged agent to the second managed agent.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2002Date of Patent: November 11, 2008Assignee: Intel CorporationInventor: Neal C. Patent number: 7412536Abstract: A method and system for a network node for attachment to switch fabrics is described. The system includes an access unit to provide access to communications from an external network, a classification element to label received packets with information identifying an associated flow and queue, a mapping element to place the packets into one of a plurality of queues based on the label identifiers, a scheduler to schedule packets in the queues for transmission, and an encapsulation element to encapsulate the scheduled packets into uniform size frames. The uniform size frames may then be transmitted to a next destination through a switch fabric.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2003Date of Patent: August 12, 2008Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Neal C. Patent number: 7180862Abstract: A method of providing virtual output queue feedback to a number of boards coupled with a switch. A number of virtual queues in the switch and/or in the boards are monitored and, in response to one of these queues reaching a threshold occupancy, a feedback signal is provided to one of the boards, the signal directing that board to alter its rate of transmission to another one of the boards. Each board includes a number of virtual output queues, which may be allocated per port and which may be further allocated on a quality of service level basis.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2002Date of Patent: February 20, 2007Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Brian E. Peebles, Gerald Lebizay, Neal C. Oliver

Publication number: 20040264472Abstract: A method and system for open-loop congestion control in a system fabric is described. The method includes determining which traffic class each received network packet belongs, determining a path to be taken by each packet through a switch fabric, classifying each packet into one of a plurality of flow bundles based on the packet's destination and path through the switch fabric, mapping each packet into one of a plurality of queues to await transmission based on the flow bundle to which the packet has been classified, and scheduling the packets in the queues for transmission to a next destination through the switch fabric.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2003Publication date: December 30, 2004Inventors: Neal C. Publication number: 20040062271Abstract: A method and system is provided for using H.248 to provide control and monitoring functionality for a computer supported telecommunication applications (CSTA) switching domain. The system includes a media gateway controller. The media gateway controller includes a translator to translate commands from one protocol to another to allow the commands to be communicated between a CSTA server and a media gateway. When a CSTA command is received by the media gateway controller, the media gateway controller translates the command into a protocol understood by a media gateway, such as a H.248 protocol. The translated command may then be processed and H.248 commands may then be transmitted to the media gateway. When a message is received from the media gateway, the media gateway controller translates the message into the CSTA protocol. CSTA messages may then be transmitted to the CSTA server.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 26, 2002Publication date: April 1, 2004Inventors: Neal C. Oliver, Paul A. Rupsis

Patent number: 5020059Abstract: An interconnection scheme among the processing elements ("PEs") of a multiprocessor computing architecture realizes, through PE reconfiguration, both fault tolerance and a wide variety of different processing topologies including binary trees and linear systolic arrays. By using a novel variant on a tree expansion scheme, the invention also allows for arbitrary up-sizing of the PE count to build virtually any size of tree network, with each size exhibiting same high degree of fault tolerance and reconfigurability. The invention may be practiced with 4-port PEs arrayed in a module comprising a 4.times.4 board-mounted PE lattice. Each PE has four physical ports, which connect to the similar ports of its lattice neighbors. Each PE has an internal capability to be configured to route signals to or from any of its neighbors.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1989Date of Patent: May 28, 1991Assignee: AT&T Bell LaboratoriesInventors: Allen L.
