  • Publication number: 20180260796
Abstract: A system and method for eliciting and receiving tips for media content. A server may provide media content to a consumer by streaming a movie to the consumer's device such as a computer, smartphone, tablet, or television. At a trigger point during the movie, the server may present a tipping interface to the consumer. A tipping interface may provide elicitation content and interface controls to accept tipping input. Elicitation content may be media content designed to inspire the consumer to provide a tip. The tipping interface may also provide information for guiding the consumer as to the amount of a tip. Interface controls in the tipping interface may accept tipping input from the consumer, which may include a tip amount, a reason for the tip, and suggestions related to the streamed movie or the streaming or filtering of the streamed movie. The server may receive the tipping input from the consumer and may effect a financial transaction based on the received tipping input.

  • Patent number: 9363561
Abstract: A method and system for filtering content streamed over HLS and other streaming technologies are disclosed. A Streaming Filtering Solution may generate a content map for a movie or other content, identifying filterable elements associated with vulgarity, sex/nudity, violence, etc. A filterable element may identify a category and subcategory of content (e.g., “vulgarity”: “f---” word), a begin time and end time, and other characteristics. The Streaming Filtering Solution may generate media segment files based on the filterable elements. The Streaming Filtering Solution may obtain a filter with categories and sub-categories of content to exclude or retain when the content is played. When content is requested, the Streaming Filtering Solution may apply the filter to the media segment files to determine that some media segment files should be dynamically generated based on the filter.

Abstract: A method and system for collaboratively curating video maps used for filtering audio, visual, or audiovisual content, such as a movie. One or more video taggers may tag segments of a movie containing filterable content, such as swearing, nudity, sex, violence, etc. A tag for a segment containing filterable content may comprise a start time, an end time, and a reference to one or more categories of filterable content, e.g., swearing, nudity, sex, etc. A video reviewer may review the quality of a tagger's work, and may add, delete, or edit tags, and may also send the video back to the tagger for further work. A video publisher may further review the tagger's and the reviewer's work and add, delete, or edit tags; send the video back to the reviewer or tagger for further work; or publish the tags as a “video map” which may be used with a user filter (or user preferences) to filter a movie. A user's preferences may indicate which categories of content the user wishes to remove from a movie, e.g.
