  • Publication number: 20200353413
Abstract: Methods and related systems for separating isotopes of an element are provided. The element has at least two isotopic forms. The method includes hyperpolarizing one or more of the isotopic forms in a feedstock, and applying a magnetic field to the target isotopes in order to at least partially spatially separate the isotopic forms of the element from one another.

  • Patent number: 10408895
Abstract: A carrier for a sample of highly polarized material includes a shell having a radially exterior surface and a radially interior surface, and a sample of highly polarized material interiorly adjacent to the radially interior surface. The shell may be substantially cylindrical, and may be constructed from a magnetic or non-magnetic material. The sample of highly polarized material may comprise a methyl rotor group material. The sample of highly polarized material may comprise pyruvic acid or an acetic acid. The sample of highly polarized material may be co-axial with the cylindrical shell. The sample of highly polarized material may be bonded or frozen to the radially interior surface of the shell. The carrier may further comprise a wad of material that forms a volume and contacts an axially proximate end of at least one of the shell or the sample.

  • Publication number: 20170269180
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a device defining a generally closed volume therein, henceforth known as a “shuttle”, not permanently fixed to a probe or other surface inside the cryostat, into which gas and/or liquid—most preferably helium gas or liquid—can pass into or out of in a controlled and predictable manner. The passage of gas or liquid into the shuttle is preferably via a porous barrier so that sterile conditions can be maintained in the interior of the shuttle.

  • Patent number: 9606200
Abstract: A method of providing a material sample in a state favorable to retaining spin polarization includes cooling a material sample from a temperature above a freezing point of the material sample down to a second temperature below the freezing point of the material sample; maintaining the sample at about the second temperature for a period of about several hours; and reducing temperature of the material sample to a third temperature lower than the second temperature to provide the material sample in a state favorable to retaining spin polarization, where the steps of cooling, maintaining and reducing are performed in the absence of an adulterant material. The method of providing a sample of pyruvic acid in a state favorable to retaining spin polarization may include cooling the sample of pyruvic acid in the absence of an adulterant material from a temperature above a freezing point of the sample of pyruvic acid down to less than about 200 Kelvin to provide the sample.
