Patent number: 11369363Abstract: Bone anchors having improved fixation are discussed. The bone anchors include an anchor body and radially protruding ribs that extend approximately parallel to a longitudinal axis of the bone anchor. A leading distal edge of each rib may be configured in a tapered “knife-edge” configuration. Such ribs may mitigate the plow-out effect, preserving contact between the ribs and the surrounding bone along the length of the anchor. Furthermore, such ribs provide increased surface area, improving fixation strength.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2020Date of Patent: June 28, 2022Assignee: Smith & Nephew, Inc.Inventors: Nehal Navinbhai Patel, Mark Edwin Housman
