    Abstract: The present invention relates to closure elements for containers comprising a sealing element, the sealing element comprising a thermoplastic polymer and an effective absorbing amount of a cyclodextrin material; wherein the cyclodextrin material is selected from the group comprising &agr;-cyclodextrin, &bgr;-cyclodextrin, &ggr;-cyclodextrin, derivatives of &agr;-cyclodextrin, &bgr;-cyclodextrin and &ggr;-cyclodextrin and mixtures thereof. It has been found, that the sealing elements show excellent barrier properties with respect to permeants, such as aromatic substances, especially trichloroanisole, aldehydes or ketones and/or impurities from the polymer.
