  • Patent number: 8072373
Abstract: In a method for accuracy estimation of network based corrections for a satellite-aided positioning system, with a network of reference stations code and phase measurements are recorded by the reference stations and transferred to a network processing centre. The measurements are converted to observables and single-differences between a master station and at least one auxiliary station selected for each reference station are calculated. Estimates of single-difference between each reference station and the corresponding master station are generated and slant residuals for each reference station and satellite are calculated by using the difference between calculated single-differences and estimates. Subsequently double-differences are formed by differencing satellite s and the slant residuals of a reference satellite k, leading to zenith residuals calculated by mapping the double-differences to a zenith value.

  • Patent number: 8008795
Abstract: A power generation system is disclosed for supplying power to an electrical grid. The system comprises a synchronous machine and coupling means for coupling the synchronous machine to a prime mover. Control means are provided to control the system such that the system is selectively operable in two modes. In the first mode, the synchronous machine is coupled to the prime mover and acts as a synchronous generator to supply power to the grid. In the second mode the synchronous machine is decoupled from the prime mover and acts as a synchronous condenser. This can allow parameters of the grid, such as power factor and voltage, to be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 7843175
Abstract: Excitation control circuitry for a synchronous generator is disclosed. The synchronous generator is of a type comprising a main machine (2) and an exciter (6) for exciting the main machine. The excitation control circuitry comprises an automatic voltage regulator (10) for controlling power flow from the main machine to the exciter, and an excitation boost system (14) for selectively supplying power from a second source of electrical power (12) to the exciter (6). This can allow additional excitation to be provided, for example, when the generator is in overload. This arrangement can allow a synchronous generator to be upgraded by adding the excitation boost system to provide enhanced overload performance.

  • Publication number: 20100183247
Abstract: A protective container, such as a protective bag, comprising a sealable aperture defined by opposing first and second flexible sheets which are joined to each other by seals at either side of the aperture, such that the aperture is closable by bringing the first and second flexible sheets into contact with each other across the width of the aperture, wherein the inward facing surface of the first sheet comprises an adhesive strip which extends across the width of the aperture and is covered by a release liner such that when the release liner is removed, the aperture is sealable by bringing the adhesive strip into contact with an opposing part of the second flexible sheet across the width of the aperture, wherein the release liner does not extend into the seal between the first and second flexible sheets at either side of the sealable aperture. The protective container is typically waterproof and can be used to protect articles from damage by water, such as rain water or flood water.

Abstract: A method of verifying the integrity of a seal in a sealing region between a container and a sealing film applied to the container comprises viewing at least the sealing region to detect the presence of a detectable predetermined feature in the sealing region. The presence of the detectable predetermined feature in the sealing region is indicative of an improper seal between the container and the sealing film whilst the absence of the detectable predetermined feature in the sealing region is indicative of an integral seal between the container and the sealing film.

  • Publication number: 20100013340
Abstract: A rotating electrical machine is disclosed, the machine comprising a stator 14, 52 and a rotor 10, 50 arranged to rotate inside the stator. The rotor comprises a plurality of permanent magnets 28, 30, 54 arranged to produce a radial magnetic flux in an airgap between the rotor and the stator. The machine also comprises a stationary excitation coil 34, 46, 66. The rotor comprises a plurality of low reluctance elements 32, 58. A current through the stationary excitation coil causes a magnetic flux to be established in a magnetic flux path which passes into the rotor through a first low reluctance element and out of the rotor through a second low reluctance element, which magnetic flux combines with the radial magnetic flux produced by the permanent magnets in the airgap. This arrangement can allow control of the field within a permanent magnet radial flux machine.

  • Publication number: 20070112824
Abstract: A method of anomaly detection applicable to telecommunications or retail fraud or software vulnerabilities uses inductive logic programming to develop anomaly characterisation rules from relevant background knowledge and a training data set, which includes positive anomaly samples of data covered by rules. Data samples include 1 or 0 indicating association or otherwise with anomalies. An anomaly is detected by a rule having condition set which the anomaly fu,lfils. Rules are developed by addition of conditions and unification of variables, and are filtered to remove duplicates, equivalents, symmetric rules and unnecessary conditions. Overfitting of noisy data is avoided by an encoding cost criterion. Termination of rule construction involves criteria of rule length, absence of negative examples, rule significance and accuracy, and absence of recent refinement.
