  • Patent number: 12338345
Abstract: This technology is directed to a well-dispersed micronized pigment (carbon black and/or metal oxides such as iron oxide and zinc sulfide) which is added to Aristech's acrylic solid surface formulation at 0.5-5 wt % resulting in a solid surface with an enriched color and improved surface scratch appearance. The use of the micronized pigments helps surface scratches appear less white because of the improved coverage of white aluminum trihydrate (ATH).

  • Publication number: 20240360305
Abstract: A thermoformable acrylic article includes a basin portion, a deck at least partially surrounding the basin portion, wherein the thermoformable article is made of a thermoformable composition including: a) about 35-95 wt % an acrylic pre-polymerized syrup; b) about 0-10 wt % of a comonomer; and c) about 5-65 wt % of a filler, wherein the filler has an average particle size (d50) in a range of 0.1 ?m to 50 ?m, and, wherein the surface of the thermoformable article has a matte finished.

  • Publication number: 20240352246
Abstract: Resin compositions include a) about 35 wt % to about 90 wt % of an primary acrylic component or about 10 wt % to about 90 wt % of a polyester component; b) about 0 wt % to about 10 wt % of a comonomer; and c) about 10 wt % to about 15 wt % of an organo-phosphorus/nitrogen flame resistant composition. Methods include i.) preparing an acrylic resin composition including: a) about 35 wt % to about 90 wt % of an primary acrylic component or about 10 wt % to about 90 wt % of a polyester component; b) about 0-10 wt % of a comonomer; and c) about 10-15 wt % of an organo-phosphorus/nitrogen flame resistant composition; and ii) processing the acrylic resin by continuous casting to form a sheet or surface.

  • Publication number: 20240084124
Abstract: Articles may be formed from a thermoformable composition, the thermoformable composition including: a) about 35 wt % to about 95 wt % of an acrylic pre-polymerized syrup; b) about 0 wt % to about 10 wt % of a comonomer; and c) about 5 wt % to about 65 wt % of a filler having an average particle size (d50) in a range of about 0.1 ?m to about 50 ?m; wherein the article has a surface having a gloss measurement at a 60° measurement angle within a range of about 0 Gloss Units to about 20 Gloss Units, and a roughness Ra within a range of about 1 microinch to about 100 microinches. Methods may include producing a thermoformed article by the steps of: i) preparing a thermoformable composition; ii) casting the thermoformable composition into a sheet; and iii) thermoforming the cast sheet against a mold to produce a thermoformed article.

  • Patent number: 10604647
Abstract: A composition for making a cast, thermoformable sheet or slab, comprising: a syrup comprising: about 30-40% SSI—acrylic pre-polymerized syrup by weight at 20% solids; about 30-40% MMA—methyl methacrylate by weight; about 2-3% BA—Butyl acrylate by weight; about 1-15% by weight acrylic chips; and about 1-15% by weight rigid particles with a mean diameter of about 0.5-2000 ?m. The rigid particles may preferably comprise a polymeric material such as poly allyl diglycol carbonate particles. A method for producing a thermoformed article having a textured surface comprising mixing the syrup as above; swelling the acrylic chips; degassing the syrup; heating the syrup; casting the syrup into a sheet; and thermoforming the cast sheet against a mold.
